What’s the Role?
Heat Treatment Engineer – Chilca Project
We are seeking a highly motivated Heat Treatment Engineer to join our Operations team at our new Chilca Foundry.
In this role, you will be responsible for supervising and optimising the heat treatment of steel castings, ensuring that all processes are executed in accordance with standards, procedures and work instructions. You will define heat treatment recipes, coordinate furnace operations, and provide technical guidance to the business to guarantee that our products meet the required metallurgical and quality specifications.
You will work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, closely with the Technical Lead, Production, Quality and Maintenance teams, with strong opportunities to learn, influence and grow your technical impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise Heat Treatment operations in accordance with standards, procedures and work instructions.
- Establish Heat Treatment procedures and Work Instructions for standard processes.
- Specify heat treatment recipes for each part number and production order.
- Perform and/or coordinate furnace calibration activities and ensure correct operation of the heat treatment equipment.
- Document and register all Heat Treatment batches and casting serial numbers, ensuring full traceability.
- Analyse and report the heat treatment results of castings, including hardness and microstructural evaluation.
- Prepare inspection procedures and supervise inspections according to specifications and customer requirements.
- Submit Heat Treatment quality control reports and participate in failure investigations, developing actions to prevent recurrence.
- Provide technical guidance to the business regarding the heat treatment of castings.
- Actively demonstrate adherence to Safety, 5S and Continuous Improvement, keeping the work area safe, orderly and compliant with Bradken standards.
Our Ideal Candidate meets the following criteria:
Qualifications & Education
- Technical or university degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering or a closely related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in heat treatment within foundry environments, preferably steel castings.
- Experience in furnace control and burner technology (gas and/or electric furnaces).
- Experience in physical testing, hardness testing and microstructural analysis related to heat-treated castings.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Solid understanding of heat treatment standards and practices applied to steel castings.
- Experience working with processes such as quenching, tempering, normalising, annealing, and associated inspection methods.
- Ability to read and follow Work Instructions, procedures and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with quality systems and traceability requirements in industrial or mining manufacturing environments.
Other Requirements
- Background in industrial, manufacturing, fabrication or mining companies is highly valued.
- Intermediate or conversational English is valued but not mandatory (ability to read technical documentation is a plus).
The position is based at our Chilca Foundry, located at G74J+WH, Chilca 15870 (transportation will be provided).
