The Role / Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Tax, the successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of UK, EU and global indirect tax and have practical, hands-on compliance experience gained in an in-house position. This is an excellent opportunity to work at one of the world’s leading business news and information organisations that provides a broad range of essential services, including news, comment, data and analysis, to an international audience of highly influential business minds.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage VAT compliance for the FT’s UK VAT Group, including in-house filing of UK MOSS, VAT and ECSL / intrastat returns;
- Manage compliance for various overseas VAT/GST/Sales Tax registrations, including some in-house filing;
- Manage outsourced compliance provider, including reviewing externally prepared draft VAT returns and ensuring reconciliation to internally generated data;
- Manage Digital Services Tax compliance and filing requirements;
- Actively monitor global indirect tax registration and filing requirements, especially B2C Electronically Supplied Services and Digital Services Tax registrations;
- Manage various tax systems issues, including Business As Usual changes such as VAT rate and rule changes, new VAT registrations and digital product taxability;
- Manage queries from HMRC and other tax authorities on all indirect tax related issues.
- Provide indirect tax support to the business, for example providing advice regarding the indirect tax impact of new product lines or markets being targeted.
- Liaising with the FT Finance team on indirect tax accounting issues and invoicing queries.
- Review and sign off balance sheet reconciliations for VAT/GST/Sales Tax balance sheet accounts;
- Management responsibility for an Indirect Tax Assistant Manager and Indirect Tax Analyst;
- Undertake ad-hoc duties and projects as required from time to time in relation to indirect tax.
Required Skills / Experience
- Sound knowledge of UK VAT legislation and EU VAT Directives;
- Sound knowledge of international indirect tax, including US Sales Tax;
- Sounds knowledge of B2C Electronically Supplied Services VAT and Digital Services Taxes
- Sound understanding of indirect tax accounting, including general ledger journals;
- Strong Excel and data analysis skills;
- Relevant accounting or tax qualification desired (but not essential);
- Experience of tax systems, especially Oracle Fusion and/or Vertex desired (but not essential)
- Resourceful, practical, able to handle ambiguity, resilient, able to function effectively under pressure;
- Excellent organisational skills and active approach to risk management processes and controls.
