Job Purpose

The editorial assistant role is integral to our business model. These team members know what matters most to our readers and parse it from publications targeting broader audiences. 

Editorial assistants (also known as Mass Media writers) add context from prior coverage or institutional knowledge to the stories they summarize, as appropriate. They work as part of the team and coordinate with editors. They are self-starters capable of scouring sources to find stories that complement our original reporting or pick up assignments as asked. 

Duties:

  • (News Gathering/Judgement): Scours other news outlets and major industry announcements to identify content relevant to our audiences.

  • (News Gathering/Judgement): Finds and cites relevant primary sources (corporate announcements, regulatory documents, etc.) when feasible/appropriate. Adds context from archives or previous coverage.

  • (News Gathering/Judgement): Provides the expected number of pieces in the preferred format.

  • (Writing): Meticulously cites and credits outside sources and adheres to all journalistic standards necessary to provide unbiased, accurate, and properly sourced accounts. Strictly adheres to FT and FT Specialist U.S. standards and to copyright laws as well as internal artificial intelligence (AI) and other policies.

  • (Writing): Provides sharp and clean copy to the managing or associate editor; adheres to AP/FT Specialist U.S. style.

  • (Writing): Sticks to deadline; communicates delays.
