Role Overview

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Head of Data and Content Strategy to lead the overall vision and execution of the EIU’s data strategy. This role will be responsible for defining and managing supplier engagement, driving data product enhancements, and developing the strategic vision for data sourcing, redistribution, and integration into new products and services. 

This is a senior leadership position requiring a deep understanding of data sourcing, supplier management, AI integration, and content redistribution, with a focus on innovation and maximizing the impact of EIU’s data assets. You will work closely with commercial, product, and technology teams to define the opportunities for market expansion through strategic partnerships with vendors and marketplaces.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Strategy Ownership- Ownership of EIU’s data strategy, ensuring it aligns with business objectives and supports the creation of new data products. Define and lead the strategic approach for sourcing data, identifying new suppliers, and optimizing data acquisition processes. Manage supplier relationships, ensuring that EIU leverages the best data sources available and that supplier agreements are in line with organizational goals.
  • Supplier Engagement & Budget Management- Develop and manage the supplier engagement process, including identifying key data suppliers and ensuring ongoing, productive partnerships. Oversee the supplier budget, ensuring resources are spent effectively and efficiently to meet data acquisition and product development needs. Understand contractual rights and obligations with suppliers, particularly around data usage and AI integration, ensuring compliance with terms.
  • Redistribution Ecosystem & Marketplace Strategy- Define the opportunity for EIU’s data and content in the redistribution ecosystem, identifying potential partners, vendors, and marketplaces for data distribution. Develop and execute a strategy for distributing EIU’s data through third-party vendors and marketplaces, in partnership with commercial and product teams, to increase reach and revenue generation. Work with commercial teams to ensure that distribution agreements are aligned with EIU’s business goals and maximize the value of EIU’s data assets.
  • Data Enhancements & Prioritization- Lead the process for identifying and prioritizing data enhancements, ensuring that business needs are addressed and aligned with the development of new data products. Maintain an understanding of the current data coverage and identify gaps or opportunities for future development based on market trends, business needs, and client demands.
  • Business Needs Capture & Data Product Development- Develop a clear and systematic process to capture business requirements for new data sets and integrate them into the development of new data products. Collaborate with internal stakeholders (commercial, product, technology teams) to ensure data products meet business goals and deliver tangible value to clients.
  • AI Integration and Data Sourcing Rights- Ensure that all data acquisition, usage, and integration strategies account for AI-related rights and obligations in supplier agreements. Stay abreast of trends in AI and machine learning to understand how they can enhance EIU’s data products and services, while ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Data Coverage Assessment & Future Development- Continuously assess the current state of EIU’s data coverage across various verticals, understanding what is available, where there are gaps, and what should be developed for future needs. Collaborate with product teams to determine which new datasets are required to expand or evolve existing data products.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in data strategy, content strategy, or product management, preferably within a data-driven or content-centric organization (financial services, media, tech, etc.).
  • Proven experience in managing data supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the effective use of external data sources.
  • Deep understanding of AI and machine learning trends and how they can be integrated into data products and services.
  • Experience in leading and developing data sourcing strategies, including both structured and unstructured data.
  • Strong background in identifying and developing new data products, with a focus on business needs and customer outcomes.
  • Familiarity with data governance, data privacy regulations, and compliance, especially in relation to third-party data acquisition and AI integration.
  • Experience working with data marketplaces, vendors, and other third-party distribution channels.
  • Knowledge of data technologies and platforms (APIs, cloud services, big data ecosystems) and how they support data sourcing, integration, and distribution.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with a proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and drive alignment on strategic initiatives.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to assess data gaps and opportunities for product development and business growth.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders and external partners.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and manage complex workflows.
