Purpose of the Role
Join Solutions Technology to build and support the data infrastructure powering Man Group's client-facing platforms. This role combines hands-on development work with production support, working closely with the London-based team. You'll build data pipelines, enhance APIs, investigate data quality issues, and handle user support—gaining broad exposure to our technology stack while making immediate impact.

Specific responsibilities
Development & Projects (70%)

  • Build and enhance Python data pipelines using Pandas and NumPy
  • Write SQL stored procedures and optimise database queries
  • Collaborate closely with analysts and quants in order to automate critical business processes
  • Improve and maintain front-office infrastructure for financial data retrieval, analysis and reporting
  • Contribute to data quality and reporting automation projects
  • Collaborate with London-based engineers on cross-team initiatives


Production Support (30%)

  • Investigate data quality issues using SQL across multiple databases
  • Manage user access (databases, Tableau, reporting systems)
  • Execute client data exports, reloads, and backfills
  • Triage Slack support requests and create Jira tickets
  • Maintain documentation and runbooks


Our Tech Stack

  • Python (primary), SQL Server, Pandas, NumPy, FastAPI, Git, Bitbucket, Tableau, Airflow, Docker, Jira, Slack
  • CI/CD: Jenkins, TeamCity, Octopus Deploy
  • AI Tools: Claude Code, Cline, MCP servers etc (we actively encourage AI-assisted development)


Key Competencies

  • Strong Python: Well-documented, tested, modular code. OOP, dataclasses, type hints, docstrings, design patterns
  • Pandas/NumPy: Build efficient data pipelines and manipulations
  • SQL Expertise: Complex queries, joins, stored procedures, indexes, query optimization
  • Testing: pytest, unit tests, integration tests
  • Git & Virtual Environments: Practical working knowledge
  • Remote Work: Self-organized, strong written communication, independent with appropriate supervision
  • Degree: Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Self-starter with demonstrable personal projects or open-source contributions
  • Detail-oriented problem solver with analytical mindset
  • Clear communicator who documents investigations thoroughly
  • AI-curious and eager to leverage coding assistants (Claude Code, Cline)
  • Testing-focused with instinct to verify before deploying


Advantageous

The following traits are highly valued but not required. Candidates who possess some of these qualities will stand out, though we don't expect anyone to have them all.

  • C# knowledge
  • Experience with Plotly Dash, Streamlit, Tableau or any other data visualisation framework
  • Front-office technology experience (hedge fund, investment bank)
  • Familiarity with Spark, Ray, or distributed computing
  • React/TypeScript for web development
  • Experience with FastAPI/Flask/Django
