Purpose
The purpose of this role within the Oxford-Man Institute (OMI) Advisory team is to work with our academic and investment experts to help solve the key challenges and identify opportunities for sophisticated global asset allocators.


As OMI Advisory Analyst, you will combine expertise in financial markets with exceptional research and writing capabilities. Your strong communication skills, backed by intellectual curiosity and a broad understanding of geopolitics and macroeconomics, mean you will be a trusted partner to Man Group's researchers and academics (internal and affiliated). Your ability to synthesise complex ideas into compelling written analysis will allow you to support your senior OMI Advisory colleagues in generating in-depth, bespoke research projects, white papers and primers, with a particular focus on geopolitical themes, macroeconomic trends and risk analysis.


You will combine industry best practice and academic research, drawing on Man's wide range of rich data sources, to explore how global events shape markets and to communicate these insights clearly to sophisticated audiences.
Your combination of strong writing skills, market knowledge and intellectual breadth will set you apart. This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise at the intersection of geopolitics, macro and portfolio risk, some of the most compelling topics in finance today.


Your Responsibilities

  • Research, develop and articulate insights on geopolitical events, macroeconomic trends and other relevant subjects, assessing their implications for portfolios and asset allocation.
  • Assist in building out the suite of OMI Advisory research topics and education framework, liaising with researchers, academics, technology teams and investment engines.
  • Lead the planning, writing, editing and proof-reading of white papers, primers and thought leadership pieces, ensuring clarity, rigour and engagement.
  • Assist the senior OMI Advisory and Portfolio Advisory team members to generate cutting-edge financial research for publication.
  • Manage compliance sign-off process for all thought leadership, in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Ensure familiarity with strategies and investment management styles employed at Man Group, to understand the risk and performance drivers.
  • Follow industry, academic and geopolitical literature for developments relevant to markets and suggest how OMI Advisory can support our investment businesses and clients.
  • Ensure investment and macro knowledge is current by attending relevant internal meetings and keeping up to date with global news and market developments.
  • Contribute to ad hoc business projects and requirements.

Your Background

  • 4+ years of experience in a relevant role (markets, research, macro strategy, risk or financial journalism); fewer years considered for exceptional candidates.
  • Strong investment knowledge, with a keen interest in financial markets, geopolitics and macroeconomics.
  • Excellent writing skills – demonstrated ability to produce clear, compelling long-form analysis (writing samples may be requested).
  • Very strong academics – CFA/IMC/Finance qualification a plus, but not essential; backgrounds in economics, political science, history or related fields also valued.
  • Knowledge/understanding of the structure and drivers of returns in financial markets. Cross-market awareness including Equities, Rates, Credit, FX, Volatility and Commodities.
  • Interest in tail risk, scenario analysis and how extreme events affect portfolios.
  • Comfortable with data and quantitative concepts; Python or similar programming experience a plus but not required.
  • Experience planning, writing and editing research papers or thought leadership.
  • Creative approach to problem-solving and idea generation.
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Creative thinker, self-starter and team player.
  • Attention to detail, particularly in editing and proof-reading.
  • High levels of discretion.
