The role:

The purpose of this role within the Oxford-Man Institute (OMI) Advisory team is to help solve the key challenges and identify opportunities for sophisticated global asset allocators.

As OMI Advisory Analyst, you will be an expert in the financial markets, with a strong working knowledge of a broad range of investment strategies. Your strong communication skills, backed by a depth of understanding, mean you will be a trusted partner to Man Group’s researchers and academics (internal and affiliated). Your expert knowledge of financial models and data processing will allow you to support your senior OMI Advisory colleagues to generate in-depth, bespoke research projects, white papers and primers. 

You will combine industry best practice and academic research, drawing on Man’s wide range of rich data sources, to solve problems and help find new ways to model financial concepts and problems, working closely within the OMI Advisory and Portfolio Advisory teams.

Your combination of a quantitative skillset coupled with financial experience will set you apart. This role offers the opportunity to further develop the analytical, conceptual and modelling skills needed to solve the most interesting problems in financial markets and portfolio theory today.

Your responsibilities:

  • Research, develop and implement quantitative models and back-testing in line with the pipeline and goals of the OMI Advisory team.
  • Assist in building out the suite of OMI Advisory research topics and education framework, liaising with researchers, academics, technology teams and investment engines to develop and validate quantitative research models.
  • Assist the senior OMI Advisory and Portfolio Advisory team members to generate cutting edge financial research, published in primers, white papers and academic research. 
  • Contribute to the planning, writing, editing and proof-reading of academic research papers, primers and white papers.
  • Manage compliance sign off process for all thought leadership, in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Ensure familiarity with strategies and investment management styles employed at Man Group, to understand the risk and performance drivers.
  • Follow industry/academic literature for innovations in financial concepts and techniques and suggest how OMI Advisory can support our investment businesses and clients to profit from this.
  • Conduct independent quantitative and financial research into new financial techniques and concepts, including to develop ideas and source client-relevant and interesting topics/themes (propose appropriate model diagnostics; feedback observations into research).
  • Ensure investment and strategy knowledge is current by attending relevant internal investment team meetings and keeping up to date with industry news.
  • Contribute to ad hoc business projects and requirements.

Your Background:

  • Strong investment knowledge, with a keen interest in investment products and financial markets.
  • Very strong academics - CFA/IMC/Finance qualification preferred, but not essential.
  • Excellent financial, numeracy and analytical skills, including quantitative subject experience.
  • Knowledge/understanding of the structure and drivers of returns in financial markets. Cross market knowledge including Equities, Rates, Credit, FX, Volatility and Commodities and understanding of the underlying structures and behaviours of the market.
  • Python or similar programming experience.
  • Able to undertake quantitative/numerical research and data processing and to construct back-test models, including using python.
  • Strong research and writing skills preferred.
  • Experience of planning, writing, editing research papers is a positive, but not essential.
  • Creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Highly organised and with the ability to prioritise assignments, based on a broad understanding of the business requirements, to meet project deliverables within tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Creative thinker, self-starter and team player.
  • Attention to detail as it pertains to editing and proof reading.
  • High levels of discretion.
