Manager, Internal Audit

Chicago (35 W. Wacker Dr.); London

Groupon is a marketplace where customers discover new experiences and services everyday and local businesses thrive. To date we have worked with over a million merchant partners worldwide, connecting over 16 million customers with deals across various categories. In a world often dominated by e-commerce giants, we stand out as one of the few platforms uniquely committed to helping local businesses succeed on a performance basis.

Groupon is on a radical journey to transform our business with relentless pursuit of results. Even with thousands of employees spread across multiple continents, we still maintain a culture that inspires innovation, rewards risk-taking and celebrates success. The impact here can be immediate due to our scale and the speed of our transformation. We're a "best of both worlds" kind of company. We're big enough to have the resources and scale, but small enough that a single person has a surprising amount of autonomy and can make a meaningful impact.

About the Role:

As a Manager within the Internal Audit team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effectiveness of Groupon's internal controls, risk management, and governance processes. This role is heavily dedicated to SOX compliance, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements. You will lead and manage projects and project teams, providing guidance and expertise to ensure objectives are met with timeliness and quality. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in process SOX controls, understand IT controls, have operational review and process improvement experience, with a mindset for making things more efficient, embrace technology, and demonstrate the ability to lead.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage SOX testing projects and project teams, from planning through reporting stages. This includes:

    • Providing supervision to ensure core SOX objectives are met, including timeliness and quality assurance.

    • Providing effective issue and conflict resolution for the team regarding SOX compliance matters.

    • Efficient management of SOX compliance efforts.

    • Effectively managing time to ensure projects are delivered on time and with high quality.

    • Identify process improvement opportunities during SOX testing and provide recommendations to Management.

    • Maximizing external auditor reliance on Internal Audit work.

  • Draft audit reports, memos, and formalized communications to management regarding SOX compliance.

  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness in audit processes.

  • Embrace and champion the use of automation and AI within the Internal Audit function.

  • Provide overall leadership for SOX compliance projects and ensure the timeliness and quality of deliverables.

  • Proactively report changes in plan along with recommended solutions. Provide solutions to problems, not just point out problems, and conceive initiatives.

  • May lead departmental and process improvement initiatives.

Influence and Communication:

  • Serve as a resource companywide for SOX compliance-related matters and be consulted to resolve issues and concerns.

  • Demonstrate superior project management skills, including the ability to meet external auditor timelines and closely coordinate with all stakeholders.

  • Actively communicate with all stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate all 7 of Groupon's "great managers" habits - create a plan, keep it simple, know the details, get things done, be adaptable and resilient, stay humble, be a coach.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum a Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

  • 5-10 years of audit or relevant experience, with a strong emphasis on SOX compliance.

  • Experience with operational reviews and process improvement initiatives.

  • Solid understanding of internal auditing principles and frameworks such as COSO, and guidance particularly related to SOX compliance.

  • Experience in developing and executing audit plans.

  • Proven ability to manage projects, meet deadlines, and coordinate with stakeholders, including external auditors.

  • Must have a mindset for making things more efficient and embrace technology.

  • At least one certification required - CIA, CPA, CMA, Chartered Accountant

What You'll Get:

  • Base Salary: $75,300-$100,400 / year
  • Full Benefits Package: Medical, dental, vision, EAP, 401(k) match, ESPP, life and disability insurance, FSAs, and more
  • Ongoing training and support from leaders in this field
  • Hybrid work model
