The Payroll Administrator is a critical contributor to the organization, responsible for ensuring payroll is processed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. This role ensures compliance with all applicable payroll legislation and internal policies, maintains the integrity and confidentiality of payroll records, and serves as a key point of contact for employee payroll inquiries. The position is based at our Canadian Head Office in Nisku, Alberta.
Responsibilities:
- Maintaining and promoting a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and following all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identifying and communicating workplace hazards and correcting or seeking assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
- Creating and collecting all the daily timesheets.
- Processing and entering time data accurately, reviewing for compliance with company policies, legislation, and collective agreements.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential records, including onboarding documentation, compensation changes, and termination paperwork.
- Supporting Payroll activities in accordance with governing bodies and provincial standards and legislation.
- Ensuring payroll files and electronic filing systems are well organized and up-to-date.
- Preparing payroll reports as needed.
- Responding to payroll-related inquiries, resolving discrepancies, and providing supporting documentation.
- Collaborating closely with Human Resources regarding employee onboarding, offboarding and required reporting.
- Work collaboratively within the Payroll team, supporting time entry, auditing, and payroll processing activities.
- Upholding company culture and core values by adhering to Michels Canada's Standards and Policies and working with others to promote and preserve our values while conducting your duties to contribute to a positive and professional work environment.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Minimum of four (4) years of payroll-related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification in payroll administration (e.g., NPI’s Payroll Compliance Practitioner, PCP).
- Previous experience in the Construction, Pipeline, and Infrastructure industry, as well as in a unionized environment, considered an asset.
- Solid understanding of union collective agreements.
- Intermediate to advanced skills of Payroll systems and Microsoft Office applications.
