Description:
Michels Canada is seeking a Skilled Labourer to join our team in Nisku! We take pride in maintaining safe and efficient operations and manage a fleet of more than 1,500 pieces of equipment, from heavy machinery to rolling stock. We are looking for a self‑motivated, safety‑focused yard hand who can help ensure our yard operates smoothly throughout the year. In this role, you will work closely with both shop and office teams, as well as third‑party service providers including truck drivers and various vendors and suppliers. This position requires a professional attitude and a strong personal commitment to safe work practices. The role is based in Nisku, Alberta.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers. Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
- Perform general yard and property housekeeping, including sweeping, snow removal, clearing walkways of slip and trip hazards, and removing waste and other hazards from work areas.
- Assist with equipment staging and yard moves.
- Support the spotting for trucks and heavy equipment.
- Assist with organizing yard operations and meeting equipment needs as directed by the yard or shop foreman.
- Manually load and unload materials and assist with material restocking as required.
- Provide support with building maintenance and furniture assembly requests as needed.
- Perform Parts Runner duties.
- Assist with shipping and receiving duties as requested.
- Other duties as needed.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of outdoor heavy labour experience; farmhand or industrial yard labourer experience is an asset but not required.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Experience operating a forklift and loader is preferred.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and through written communication (handwritten and digital).
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting to 50lbs.
- Must be able to work outside year-round in all weather conditions.
- Friendly attitude and strong team‑player mindset.
- Demonstrated personal commitment to safety.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team, with limited supervision when required.
