Senior Business Analyst
Groupon is a marketplace where customers discover new experiences and services everyday and local businesses thrive. To date we have worked with over a million merchant partners worldwide, connecting over 16 million customers with deals across various categories. In a world often dominated by e-commerce giants, we stand out as one of the few platforms uniquely committed to helping local businesses succeed on a performance basis.
Groupon is on a radical journey to transform our business with relentless pursuit of results. Even with thousands of employees spread across multiple continents, we still maintain a culture that inspires innovation, rewards risk-taking and celebrates success. The impact here can be immediate due to our scale and the speed of our transformation. We're a "best of both worlds" kind of company. We're big enough to have the resources and scale, but small enough that a single person has a surprising amount of autonomy and can make a meaningful impact.
At Groupon, data isn't just a byproduct—it is the product. We are looking for a Senior Business Analyst who operates at the intersection of Data Science and Commercial Strategy. You won't just be a "ticket taker" for dashboards; you will be the strategic partner who answers the hardest question in the business: "Why did this happen, and what should we do next?"
This is a high-impact role for a builder who loves code (SQL/Python), understands Unit Economics (LTV, CAC), and wants to drive decisions in a global e-commerce marketplace.
The AI Advantage 🤖
We are an AI-First organization. You will leverage LLMs (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) daily to:
-
Automate the "boring stuff" (data cleaning, regex, boilerplate SQL).
-
Accelerate exploratory analysis and code generation.
-
Synthesize qualitative data to find patterns faster than ever before.
What You’ll Do & Own
-
Strategic Analysis: Partner with domain leaders (Marketing, Merchant, Product) to define KPIs and uncover growth opportunities.
-
Technical Deep Dives: Go beyond the dashboard. Use Python (Pandas) and advanced SQL (BigQuery) to model complex behaviors like retention cohorts, price elasticity, and conversion funnels.
-
Data Storytelling: Translate complex statistical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for non-technical executives.
-
Metric Governance: Define and defend the "Single Source of Truth." Ensure "Revenue" means the same thing to Finance as it does to Product.
The Tech Stack
-
Database: Google BigQuery (GCP).
-
Analysis: Advanced SQL (Window functions, CTEs), Python (Pandas, NumPy).
-
Visualization: Tableau, Looker.
-
AI: LLMs for workflow automation.
Must-Haves
-
5+ Years Experience: Proven track record in BI, Analytics, or Data Science, preferably in E-commerce or Marketplaces.
-
Technical Depth: You write production-grade SQL and are proficient in Python for analysis. Excel is not enough.
-
Business Acumen: Deep understanding of Unit Economics (LTV, CAC, Contribution Margin) and Experimentation (A/B testing stats).
-
Communication: You can debate strategy with US executives and translate data into business logic.
