The role
This is a senior reporting role at the intersection of business and politics that is crucial to maintaining and strengthening our position in the UK.
The successful candidate will be a self-starting, energetic reporter who can work effectively with reporters and editors across the UK newsroom to produce big scoops, compelling interviews and deep analysis on British business.
To land great stories and elevate our coverage above rivals in a competitive market, the chief UK business correspondent must possess - or be able to assemble quickly - a rich contacts book, ranging from CEOs and chairs to investors and government policy advisors.
The role covers many of the UK’s business groups, such as the CBI, and requires working closely with the Westminster team on delivering scoops on government policy.
A central theme is the Labour government’s effort to drive growth by relaxing some rules on planning and financial regulation while also shoring up the public finances with big tax rises.
There is also a focus on covering the City of London, including the Square Mile’s brokers, and identifying and reporting on issues central to the boardroom debate, such as diversity.
This correspondent should be able to bring their contacts book and board level sources to bear on a wide range of UK corporate stories, coordinating with sector specialists and the deals team to break stories and analyse them better and faster than the competition.
