Main Responsibilities

  • Handle the magazine printing for the FT newspaper portfolio of magazines - including but not limited to HTSI, FTWeekend magazine, Art of Fashion, Business Education and FT Wealth along with any special executions

  • Handle the magazine printing for FT Specialist titles - Investors Chronicle, The Banker, FDi and Professional Wealth Management

  • Ensure all magazines are printed to meet the quality standards that the FT expects by working with our third party partners to ensure consistency with robust quality control procedures in place.

  • Handle the FT’s magazine contractual obligations by measuring and reporting on the SLA performance, across all of our magazine printing partnerships.

  • Work closely with colleagues within the department and elsewhere (Commercial, Production and our external partners) to ensure magazines are printed on time.

  • Work closely with colleagues on commercial ideas and initiatives.

  • Handle the FT’s print sustainability requirements.  This will include working with key collaborators internally and externally, keeping accurate records, and producing reports in line with the FT’s aim of reducing its environmental impact.

Details of Role

  • Booking of print slots across all magazine print sites and ensuring non standard paper requirements are met where sites are supplying their own paper

  • Maintain the relationship with our reproduction house for HTSI checking the quality of all magazines printed WW as soon as they are available and discussing and resolving any issues with the printers including reimbursement as required in line with print quality contractual obligations.

  • Maintain the relationship with our third-party mailing partners for FT Specialist titles, discussing and resolving any issues as required and ensuring a high quality of service.

  • Performance management and resolution of all contractual SLAs with our printing partners reporting back internally a monthly summary of performance.  

  • Ensure all printing contracts and insurance details (newspaper and magazine sites) are kept up to date and latest versions are always available.

  • Work with finance to update pricing models on a quarterly basis for special executions so that all popular executions are included for HTSI and FT Weekend magazine - for example costs for gatefolds, centre inserts etc

  • Work with finance as required for FT Newspaper and FT Specialist magazines.

  • Lead all printing and paper requirements for the FT in their carbon footprint reporting.  This will also involve setting up a reporting and recording system to ensure the FT is aligned with EUDR legislation at the appropriate time.

Required Skills

  • Detailed understanding and experience of the magazine printing process is preferred, however we will also consider applicants with experience in newspaper printing and other related fields such as book publishing, packaging / label printing, commercial/advertising, marketing print services, etc

  • Willingness to undertake travel within the UK and Europe to visit our magazine printers, if required, throughout the year

  • Can do attitude with ability to respond quickly to changing priorities as required 

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to run multiple projects, deadlines, and collaborators simultaneously.

  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office and internal systems for which full training will be provided.
