The role: Staff Accountant
The Financial Times is seeking a diligent and analytical Staff Accountant to support general accounting operations and financial controls within a global media organization. This role plays a key part in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial records, supporting month-end close, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in accounting principles, hands-on general ledger experience, and a continuous improvement attitude.
Key responsibilities
● Prepare and post journal entries; analyze and resolve discrepancies to ensure accurate and complete general ledger records
● Support daily accounting operations and maintain full-cycle accounting activities for multiple legal entities
● Reconcile and post payroll in Oracle Fusion
● Support timely month-end and year-end close activities, including reconciliations, schedules, and analytical review of balance sheet accounts
● Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations for accounts across multiple legal entities
● Participate in the review of balance sheet reconciliations across the organization to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal control requirements
● Review intercompany balances within the FT group and assist with intercompany settlements
● Ensure accounting records are accurate, complete, and maintained in compliance with FT global accounting policies and internal control requirements
● Find opportunities to improve and automate accounting processes to strengthen financial controls and operational efficiency
● Collaborate with Global Finance and cross-functional teams on initiatives and ad-hoc projects as needed
Required skills / experience
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Accounting
● CPA designation preferred or actively pursuing CPA
● Minimum of 2 years of relevant accounting experience in public accounting and/or industry
● Good understanding of accounting principles, with the ability to apply standards and internal policies to routine and moderately complex transactions
● Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, Power Query, complex formulas, automation via macros a plus)
● Experience working with ERP systems; Oracle Fusion experience preferred
● Ability to understand end-to-end business processes and assess their impact on the financial statements
● Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
● Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a team-oriented environment
● Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document and explain accounting issues

Further information
A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $75,000–$85,000. To ensure pay fairness, the successful candidate will be offered a salary within the estimated salary range based on a number of considerations including but not limited to: skills; experience and training; certifications; and other business and organisational needs. The disclosed range estimate is for our NYC office and has not been adjusted for other locations.
