Backend Engineer 

ClearScore is searching for a talented backend engineer to join our growing engineering team. You will influence the direction of critical ClearScore services and tools that allow us to scale rapidly

Within a couple of days of joining, you will deploy your code to production affecting millions of users globally and write new features to attract new users and engage our user base. You will develop integrations with new partners globally so we can tackle underserved markets and offer better deals to customers.

When joining our team, you'll contribute to a global microservices architecture written in Scala, using functional programming to really provide value to our users. Currently, our microservices communicate via REST API calls, fostering seamless integration between different services. You will actively participate in our ongoing transition towards an event-driven architecture, utilising Kafka as a core component.

You'll also work with:

  • The Typelevel Stack (Cats, Cats Effect, http4s, Circe), Kafka, SBT and Pekko HTTP
  • A world-class SRE team who champion our “you build it, you run it” principle, empowering our developers to work with AWS, Kubernetes and Spinnaker
  • A Quality Assistance programme to build, test, release and monitor your own work
  • TDD and peer-reviewing enabling you to do frequent yet resilient releases to global services

You will be joining:

  • A squad collaborating closely with our business development teams to onboard and integrate new commercial partners into our cutting-edge, market-leading offers marketplace. You will also facilitate migrating legacy services to our new and improved integration stack
  • A global community of ~50 backend developers from diverse backgrounds. We are a big fan of coding bootcamps and see the great value non-traditional routes into technical careers can bring to the team
  • A global team of ~150 developers in ClearScore’s technology function
  • A learning culture, where everyone is supported in drawing up an annual Personal Development Plan.

Our Hybrid Model

  • Levels 1-5: Minimum 2 days per week in-office
