About the Role

The Legal Director - APAC is responsible for heading up the legal function for Yondr in APAC. This role will work closely with our project teams to ensure timely delivery of our Data Centers, including at our flagship project in Johor - Malaysia, within acceptable contractual risk parameters.

A key aspect of the role involves collaborating with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, spanning multiple time zones and cultural differences. The Legal Director - APAC will work closely with the global and regional business functions, including Finance, Tax, CoSec, Global IT to service day-day contractual needs and provide commercial, practical and solution-focused advice on emerging issues.

 

Main Responsibilities 

/ Overseeing the delivery of legal services and resources to accomplish corporate goals, strategies, and priorities across the region.

/ Advising the senior leadership teams on emerging legal issues and risks.

/ Participating in the formulation of policies, processes and strategies to promote best legal practices at Yondr.

/ Appoint and manage external counsel to ensure Yondr is receiving best in class expert support; outsourcing effectively to meet business needs.

/ Support our Development team on land acquisition and development activities, including legal due diligence, purchase and sale agreements, joint ventures, power / utility contracts, easements and interactions with local / State officials.

/ Support our Design & Construction team in achieving tight RFS deadlines and vendor management including drafting, negotiation and advice in relation to: OFCI procurement, Design, GC appointment, substation / minor works, consultant appointments, variation orders and delay / cost claims.

/ Support our Operations team during the mobilization and operation phase of the data center, to include facility management and security appointments and day-to-day services / goods needs.

/ Negotiate Senior Financing and other financing streams for our projects. Coordinate legal DD, monitor compliance with loan conditions and lender approvals.

/ Participate with cross-functional teams in negotiation of Hyperscale leases.

/ Draft and negotiate day-day professional services / goods / IT agreements.

/ Hold weekly meetings with project teams to monitor contract needs and status.

 

Qualifications and experience 

/ 5-10 years’ experience with a mix of private practice and inhouse preferred.

/ Comes from a good mix of Real Estate and/or Project Finance and/or Corporate M&A and/or Design & Construction background.

/ Prior Data Center / Digital Infrastructure / Developer experience is desirable.

/ Self-starter, comfortable in managing multiple projects across the APAC legal function independently.

/ Good judgment in the assessment of risk and cost / benefit analysis.

/ Willingness to embrace tech / AI to optimize the provision of legal services.

/ Capable of dealing with the demands of a fast-moving and fluid organization.

/ Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.

/ Communicate effectively and simplifies complex issues for business consideration.

/ Strong negotiating skills in both legal and commercial issues.

/ Good organisational, time management and workload management skills.

/ Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with various departments and across all business units.

/ Desire to help the business implement its strategy and achieve its objectives.
