Software Engineer - Developer Experience

We are looking for a Software Engineer - DevEx,  who is enthusiastic about finding innovative solutions to enable other engineers to excel in their work. Our goal is to facilitate frictionless development, testing, and deployment—helping our talented engineers ship high-quality code more than 70 times per day.

What You’ll Do

As a Software Engineer in DevEx, you'll join the Ship team, improving developer experience for 60 engineers committed to DevOps practices. We tackle engineers’ most frequent frustrations by exploring and applying new technologies within our engineering practices.

You will collaborate closely with other engineers and product teams, identifying their pain points and proactively implementing solutions in deployment, monitoring, testing, and performance. This might include writing codemod scripts to support teams with large-scale refactorings, enabling teams to integrate new third-party tools, or creating internal tools for developers’ local environments with near-production conditions. If the right tool doesn’t exist, you'll help us build it.

Our evolving tech stack includes technologies such as TypeScript, GitHub Actions, Cloudflare, Rust, monorepo architecture, Jest, Playwright, Datadog, Sentry, and AWS. You don’t need to know all these tools and languages from day one—what matters is your enthusiasm for continuous learning and innovation.

Who you are

You’re an experienced software developer excited by working together with engineers to understand and tackle their bottlenecks. You enjoy collaborative environments and are comfortable working across various technologies and frameworks. Ideally, in addition to your software developer background, you've touched on areas like CI/CD, infrastructure tooling, or have experience with technologies similar to TypeScript.

Most importantly, you enjoy navigating unfamiliar challenges, are curious by nature and creative in problem-solving. You’re eager to experiment, not afraid to break things occasionally and quickly pivot when needed.
