Tasks
IONOS Cloud is a machine with many moving parts. Dozens of software components interact to deliver the services offered. We are setting up a new team to better manage and monitor this machine, as well as improve the existing tooling and levels of automation. For this purpose, we are looking for a Team Leader with sound people management experience, as well as a strong technical background. We mainly rely on Kubernetes operators and cloud-native software; some of our tool stack includes ArgoCD, Prometheus, development with Golang, and other in-house developed tools.
As with a spaceship or airplane, we don't just need mechanics with oil cans, but also a leader of engineers who can guide the team, continuously improve the overall process, build new tools where necessary, and provide the other teams with the necessary support for them to excel. In our matrix organization, we work as one team and support partners in areas such as customer support, product development, or operations teams.
The underlying idea and goal is to end up with a self-healing "desired state" system that is controlled by GitOps and offers all products and components standardized processes and a reusable tool landscape. Where necessary, we help other teams with this transition, including any containerization, immutable infrastructure, idempotent interfaces, etc. In the Platform Flight Engineering team, you will find software development, operations, and infrastructure engineering.
Additional Responsibilities Include:
- People leadership responsibilities such as recruiting, hiring, and coaching a team of 5 engineers; talent development; and personnel management.
- Development management for internal tooling, in consultation with stakeholders, such as the architects.
- Serving as a "product owner" or maintainer for internal tools.
- Participation in the overall architecture.
- Incident, operations, and change management.
- Ensuring the smooth operation of multiple platforms.
- Unification and optimization of these platforms and processes.
Qualifications
- Agile mindset, with experience in modern software development methods.
- Management experience, ideally in both software development and IT platform operations.
- Solid knowledge of software development, preferably with Golang.
- In-depth knowledge of cloud environments and Kubernetes.
- Experience in operating IT platforms based on Linux and Kubernetes.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
- German at a C1+ level.
- Enjoy supporting and caring for your own team.
- "Show must go on" mentality.
Note: At the end of the application process, candidates must undergo a security check. Your consent will be requested in good time during the process.
Benefits
- Hybrid working model with a home office option.
- Flexible working hours through trust-based working hours.
- At some locations, a subsidized canteen and various free drinks.
- Modern office space with very good transport connections.
- Various employee discounts for activities and products.
- Employee events such as summer and winter parties, as well as workshops.
- Numerous training and development opportunities.
- Various health offerings, such as sports and health courses.
