3D Environment Artist

We are looking for an experienced 3D Environment Artist to create visually striking and immersive environments for Merge Mansion. As part of Merge Mansion’s Central Art team, you will bring concepts and key art to life, using your expertise across all stages of 3D production and contributing to each step of the environment development process.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and implementing high-quality real-time 3D assets, including textures and materials for environments, props, and items, ensuring adherence to the established art style and technical requirements
  • Maintaining consistency of all assets throughout the game
  • Working closely with the Art Lead, Concept Artists, Designers, and other game team members to understand the vision and requirements for the game's real-time 3D environments
  • Communicating 3D production needs and progress to other disciplines involved
  • Collaborating with Technical Artists and Programmers to integrate 3D assets into the game engine, resolving any technical challenges that may arise during the process
  • Managing and maintaining 3D asset libraries and associated documentation, ensuring content is organized and up to date
  • Contributing to the creative processes of external partners and outsourcing agencies by participating in brainstorming sessions, providing feedback, and evaluating their work
  • Continuously working to improve workflows, pipelines, and production processes to increase efficiency and quality
  • Staying informed on industry trends, tools, and techniques, consistently enhancing skills and knowledge to deliver state-of-the-art real-time visual experiences

Requirements

  • Extensive experience as a 3D Environment or Game Artist, preferably in the mobile game industry
  • Proficient in Blender
  • Experience in UV mapping, texturing, shading, lighting techniques, trimsheets, and vertex painting
  • Skilled in creating optimized real-time 3D assets
  • Familiar with the Unity game engine and ideally experienced with Shadergraph
  • Strong artistic skills with the ability to create visually appealing and cohesive 3D assets
  • Adept at interpreting and translating rough sketches and key art into polished, visually engaging designs
  • Solid understanding of perspective, composition, and color theory
  • Good knowledge of optimization techniques for game assets, including managing polycount and texture atlases
  • Proficient in Substance software packages
  • Excellent communication skills, effectively articulating thoughts and questions to ensure clarity and understanding in decision-making processes
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate effectively within a cross-disciplinary team
