Team Lead Backend Engineer - Javascript (m/f/d)

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Team Lead Backend Engineer, you'll have a direct impact on the fitness platform that powers our workouts and helps our members to get healthy and fit. You'll be working on an event-driven microservice system implemented in Javascript and node.js, driving the efficiency on how we build this project and managing the people allocated in this team. You will be responsible for keeping this crucial element to our experience reliable, scalable, observable and maintainable to support our continuous user base growth. We are big fans of devops culture, continuous integration/deployment and less bureaucratic process in favor of autonomy and responsibility.

You will have the opportunity to use cutting-edge tools and technologies, both cloud-based and integrated within our IoT-equipped gyms. This pioneering role involves close collaboration with our Chief Technology Officer, Luis, as well as with our engineering and product teams at the Berlin office.

YOU WILL BE WORKING ON

• Creating engaging fitness digital experiences that are delightful to our members and helps our coaches to deliver the best workout
• Architect, design, develop and operate our systems powering workouts and the customer and coach apps
• Helping your team deliver business value by taking decisions related to the backend and actively participating in product discussions and other stakeholders.
• Hiring, mentoring and coaching your direct reports to be the best they can be.
• Support high and low level technical decisions
• Continuously improve and enhance our microservices and our queue systems
• Design and implement new APIs
• Improve and take responsibility for deployment and release processes
• Working with relational (PostgreSQL) and non-relational databases
• Continuously improving the management and engineering processes for the team and services.
• Ingest requirements, scope work, produce estimates and help define deliverables with project timeline

ABOUT YOU

• Experienced in developing distributed applications
• Knowledge of Javascript (ES6, Node.js, Typescript, Promises, Event loop)
• You have experience in leading, building and growing engineering teams.
• Good understanding of deployment processes and continuous delivery
• You hold experience in writing simple, readable, useful code, especially for operational tooling
• You are fluent in English
• Strong experience in software architecture and application design, with a track record of making architectural decisions and a understanding of fundamental system architecture and API design (RESTful and event-driven services)
• Experienced in SQL and database schema design (PostgreSQL)
• You are highly cooperative person with the ability to establish and foster relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
• You are motivated by the challenge to solve problems and you like the fast-paced environment of a startup
• You are fluent in English
