Staff Software Engineer - Data Governance & Platform

We are seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to join StubHub's data platform team with a focus on data governance, security, and compliance. In this role you will be responsible for driving strategy and technical implementation of SOX compliant data environments, developing scalable data governance practices, and ensuring secure handling of personal information across our data warehouse and machine learning platforms. This includes establishing enterprise-grade data governance frameworks, implementing security controls for PII data, and building scalable patterns for managing permissions across environments to safely reduce developer friction.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the development of core data governance infrastructure and frameworks that enable secure, compliant access to high-quality data assets across the company. You will play a strong role in defining the culture and expectations around data security and compliance practices. We are looking for the right person that is passionate about the intersection of data engineering and security, and that can bring principles from software development fundamentals to create a data ecosystem that is principled, secure, maintainable, and extensible to the growing needs of the company over time.
- Drive strategy and technical implementation of SOX compliant data environments for Finance/Fintech, as well as applications centered around the data warehouse and machine learning.
- Partner with Business Platform, Legal, and Data Science on developing low-friction ways of safely adopting GenAI solutions that leverage the data platform
- Address known areas of improvement in handling of personal information and access to it in the data warehouse
- Develop more scalable patterns for managing permissions across environments to safely reduce developer friction
- Design and implement enterprise-grade data governance frameworks including data classification, lineage tracking, and access controls
- Build automated compliance monitoring and reporting systems for SOX and other regulatory requirements
- Establish security best practices for data sharing with external partners and third-party integrations
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve data quality, trustworthiness, and auditability across the organization
What You've Done
- 8+ years of relevant software or data engineering development experience in a fast paced, high growth environment
- 3+ years of experience with data governance, security, or compliance in enterprise environments
- Strong programming and analytical ability with expertise in Python, SQL, and infrastructure-as-code
- Experience with SOX compliance requirements and implementing technical controls for financial data
- Experience with data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and PII handling best practices
- Experience with cloud-based data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake, DataBricks, BigQuery, or Redshift
- Experience with data pipeline management and orchestration tools such as Airflow, dbt, or similar
- Experience with identity and access management systems, role-based access controls, and security frameworks
- Experience with data lineage and metadata management tools
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of GenAI/LLM security considerations and safe deployment practices
- Experience with data masking, tokenization, and encryption technologies
- Experience with audit logging, monitoring, and alerting systems

The anticipated gross base pay range is below for this role. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and competencies. Base annual salary is one component of StubHub’s total compensation and competitive benefits package, which includes equity, 401(k), paid time off, paid parental leave, and comprehensive health benefits.
Salary Range
$300,000 - $350,000 USD
