About the job:

The Mechanical Junior Engineer supports the design, coordination, and delivery of mechanical systems within our data center projects. Reporting to the Senior Mechanical Engineer, this role offers hands-on exposure to complex mechanical design, construction, and commissioning processes.

This function assists in developing and implementing reliable, efficient, and scalable mechanical solutions - learning directly from experienced professionals while contributing to Europe’s most advanced data center developments.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering Support

  • Assist in developing mechanical design concepts and reviewing consultant deliverables, including HVAC, ventilation, and fire detection and suppression systems.
  • Support the preparation and evaluation of mechanical design documentation such as drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Contributes to the development of technical standards, design templates, and best practices across projects, including developing control-system sequences of operation for mechanical systems.
  • Assist in monitoring design development activities and documenting progress across construction management tasks.
  • Support the development of analytical models for capacity planning, conceptual design validation, and HVAC control-strategy evaluation.
  • Collaborate with consultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure mechanical designs meet performance, safety, and sustainability targets.

Project Delivery

  • Support the Senior Mechanical Engineer in coordinating mechanical works throughout the design and construction phases, identifying issues, and providing technical guidance.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings and assist in reviewing submittals, shop drawings, and equipment selections.
  • Help track progress against schedules, budgets, and technical specifications.
  • Support commissioning activities, including testing, validation, and documentation of mechanical systems.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure designs and installations comply with Portuguese and European mechanical standards, building codes, and environmental regulations.
  • Contribute to quality assurance processes and document control.
  • Promote safety, energy efficiency, and reliability in all aspects of mechanical design and operation.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with electrical, civil, and controls engineers to ensure integrated systemvdesign and coordination.
  • Work with the Sales team to support fit-out planning and address technical queries.
  • Support operational handovers and provide ongoing technical support to the Operations team.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in design, cost, and performance.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on Energy and HVAC systems.
  • 1–3 years of experience in design, construction, or maintenance of mechanical systems (internships included).
  • Familiarity with HVAC, chilled water systems, and fire protection design principles.
  • Exposure to data centers, industrial facilities, or mission-critical environments.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency standards, sustainability design, or LEED principles.
  • Understanding of AutoCAD, Revit, or other mechanical design software.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel, including VBA and macro-based data analysis.
  • Exposure to building energy modelling, system simulation, pipe-network analysis, or CFD tools is a plus.
  • Knowledge of programming, electronics, and IT systems is a plus.
  • Eagerness to learn, grow, and work in a highly technical, fast-paced environment, taking ownership of tasks and exploring solutions proactively.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English (written and spoken).
