Media Sales Executive
About the role
We are looking for a dynamic, results-driven Media Sales Executive to join our commercial team in Cape Town ahead of a major upcoming sports tournament. This is a dual-function role that combines advertising and broadcast commercial sales with subscription package marketing, offering an exceptional opportunity to work at the intersection of sports, media, and business development.
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving revenue through the sale of on-air commercial slots, broadcast advertising, and digital media placements, while simultaneously developing and executing strategies to grow our subscriber base for tournament coverage packages.
What you'll be doing
Commercial Advertising Sales
- Sell advertising slots tied to tournament broadcast coverage
- Identify, approach, and convert prospective advertisers, sponsors, and brand partners
- Develop bespoke advertising packages and proposals tailored to client objectives and budgets
- Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting through to contract signature and fulfilment
- Collaborate with production and scheduling teams to ensure delivery of sold commercial inventory
- Maintain an active pipeline and consistently meet or exceed project, monthly and quarterly revenue targets
Subscription Package Sales & Marketing
- Design, promote, and sell subscription packages providing access to live and on-demand tournament content
- Build go-to-market strategies for subscriber acquisition, including digital campaigns, partnerships, and direct outreach
- Manage relationships with existing subscribers and develop retention strategies to minimise churn
- Work closely with the marketing team to create compelling messaging, collateral, and campaigns for subscriber growth
- Track and analyse subscription KPIs, providing regular reporting to senior management
- Identify and develop B2B subscription opportunities with hospitality, sports bars, corporates, and fan club
Relationship Management & Business Development
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with media agencies, brands, and industry stakeholders
- Represent the organisation at industry events, networking functions, and tournament-related engagements
- Collaborate cross-functionally with editorial, marketing, digital, and broadcast operations teams
- Stay current on market trends, competitor activity, and emerging advertising formats in the sports media landscape
What you'll bring
- Minimum 3 years of proven experience in media sales, with a strong track record of hitting revenue targets
- Demonstrated ability to sell advertising or sponsorship within a broadcast and/or digital media environment
- Strong commercial acumen with experience structuring, negotiating, and closing complex deals
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Self-motivated, target-driven, and highly organised with the ability to manage multiple accounts simultaneously
- Proficiency with CRM tools and Microsoft Office / Google Suite
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel within South Africa as required
Even better if
- Experience in sports media sales — including broadcast rights, sports sponsorships, or stadium/event advertising
- Familiarity with subscription-based or OTT (over-the-top) platform sales and marketing
- Existing network within the South African media, agency, or sports industry
- Understanding of digital advertising ecosystems including programmatic, social, and video advertising
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field
