BIM Engineer – Facilities Management

Who we are supporting 

The NATO Communication and Information Agency (NCIA) is responsible for providing secure and effective communications and information technology (IT) services to NATO's member countries and its partners. The agency was established in 2012 and is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

The NCIA provides a wide range of services, including:

  • Cyber Security: The NCIA provides advanced cybersecurity solutions to protect NATO's communication networks and information systems against cyber threats.
  • Command and Control Systems: The NCIA develops and maintains the systems used by NATO's military commanders to plan and execute operations.
  • Satellite Communications: The NCIA provides satellite communications services to enable secure and reliable communications between NATO forces.
  • Electronic Warfare: The NCIA provides electronic warfare services to support NATO's mission to detect, deny, and defeat threats to its communication networks.
  • Information Management: The NCIA manages NATO's information technology infrastructure, including its databases, applications, and servers.

Overall, the NCIA plays a critical role in ensuring the security and effectiveness of NATO's communication and information technology capabilities.

The program

Assistance and Advisory Service (AAS)

The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) is NATO’s principal C3 capability deliverer and CIS service provider. It provides, maintains and defends the NATO enterprise-wide information technology infrastructure to enable Allies to consult together under Article IV, and, when required, stand together in the face of attack under Article V.

To provide these critical services, in the modern evolving dynamic environment the NCI Agency needs to build and maintain high performance-engaged workforce. The NCI Agency workforce strategically consists of three major categorise's: NATO International Civilians (NIC)'s, Military (Mil), and Interim Workforce Consultants (IWC)'s. The IWCs are a critical part of the overall NCI Agency workforce and make up approximately 15 percent of the total workforce.


Role Background

The role of Infrastructure and Facilities Management (IFM) is to support NATO’s political and decision-making processes by managing and maintaining the NATO Headquarters site. IFM provides the International Staff (IS), International Military Staff (IMS), national Delegations, Partners, independent bodies and all others accommodated at NATO Headquarters, with facility management services. IFM is responsible for the overall management, supervision and technical and financial control of all in-sourced and out- sourced facility, maintenance, transportation and logistics services, major and minor investment projects and asset and inventory management in support of NATO Headquarters functions.

EM-HQST-IFM is facing significant challenges, mainly consecutive to the accession of two new Allies, to NATO 2030 initiatives, and the need to respond to the lack of certain capabilities. These challenges coincide with multiple mainstream HQ architectural and technical projects.

Role Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supporting drafting activities of different Facility Management teams related with Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing, both in the CAD and BIM environments;
  • Performing site surveys and ensuring all modifications are properly captured in the As-Built documentation;
  • Maintaining the technical documentation of the Facility Management Common Data Environment (SharePoint) up to date;
  • Communicating regularly with different stakeholders to follow up on project documentation status;
  • Creating processes to optimize the Information Management of technical documentation;
  • Executing different Information Management tasks on the BIM environment (Revit), aiming to digitalize the Headquarters’ Facility Management operations.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in managing documentation related to design, construction, or Facility Management;
  • Advanced knowledge of building, and Facility Management related software packages, in particular AutoCAD and Revit;
  • Excellent understanding of the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing aspects of the built environment;

Other requirements

  • Excellent drafting skills.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Well-organized, meticulous, and collaborative, with client service approach.
  • Creative and capable of drafting processes from scratch.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Understanding of Building Management Systems is desirable;
  • Knowledge of innovation and digitalization practices in the Facility Management environment, specifically related to Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing, is desirable.

Language Proficiency

  • Business English

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Facility Management, building services, or any other related field.

  • Some travel to other NATO sites may be required

Security Clearance

  • Valid National or NATO Secret personal security clearance
