Vetting Superintendent (UK, London)   

Permanent, Full Time 

Location: London, UK  

Reporting to the Head of Operations (EMEA), a Vetting Superintendent is responsible for acting as a subject matter expert in RightShip’s maritime activities and delivering its services to RightShip’s customers.  

Major Responsibilities   

  • Assess vessels and owners/managers based on internal and specific customer criteria to ensure compliance with relevant standards and suitability for the intended trade nomination. 
  • Conduct review and assessment of SIRE, CDI, RISQ inspection Reports, Port State Control Inspections, Incident investigation reports, and Customer Feedback reports 
  • Provide subject matter expertise and support to RightShip customers as required 
  • Perform essential data entry tasks, ensuring accurate updates to the RightShip Platform. Use proactive reporting from shipowners, customers, and other sources to maintain data accuracy and support operational needs. 
  • Monitor regulatory changes and support policy updates to assist in achieving compliance. Provide input to the regional manager regarding changes in maritime rules, regulations, and standards, ensuring the organisation’s readiness and alignment with updated RightShip policies.  
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to improve processes and tools. 
  • Perform company quality audits against industry standards such as TMSA and DryBMS. 
  • Contribute to continuous improvement to achieve global consistency in delivering services. 
  • Maintain organised and professional communication with external parties. Ensure all documentation and correspondence are archived according to company procedures, supporting seamless client interactions and follow-ups.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and advice to internal teams and stakeholders, as required.
  • Participate in return on purpose activities, as required.
  • Support customers and external party engagements, as required.
  • Ensure daily activities are conducted consistent with RightShip policies and expected behaviours within the instructions and values established within the organisation. 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience  

  • Class II/2 or III/2 (Master/Chief Mate or Chief/second Engineer) and have sailed in a senior capacity as Master/Chief Officer or Chief Engineer/2nd Engineer on board oil, gas, chemical tankers, and dry cargo vessels (optional). 
  • Preferred – Substantial shore-based experience in a management / supervisory capacity directly involved with the day-to-day technical and/or cargo operations of crude oil/petroleum products / LPG / LNG tankers. This could include service as a Port (Terminal) Superintendent responsible for loading and discharging ships and/or marine terminal operations/management. 
  • A thorough understanding of current Mandatory requirements, International Legislation relevant to shipping, Industry Standards and recommended best practices (such as those put out by IMO, OCIMF, IACS, USCG & ICS, etc.)  
  • Practical knowledge of ship construction, ship repair, ship machinery, ship operations, commercial management, and chartering. 
  • Experience in Health, Safety, Environment, & Quality Systems, conducting Vessel and Office Audits, including TMSA.  
  • A thorough understanding of ship inspections, surveys and certification, including SIRE, CDI, PSC, USCG, Flag State inspections and Classification surveys.  
  • Experience in Incident investigation and analysis.  
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment experience. 
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a preference for collaboration, action, accountability and developing solutions and alternatives.  
  • Attention to detail with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.  
  • The ability to work independently but also as part of a high-performing team.  
  • A personal commitment to improved safety and environmental sustainability of the maritime industry.  
  • Lead Auditor qualification is preferable. 
  • Experience in Terminal Assessments is preferable. 

Travel Requirement 
Up to 25% travel should be expected.
