Position Description
Data Scrum Master
- Permanent Full-Time
- Location: Hanoi / Singapore
We are seeking an experienced Data Scrum Master to lead Agile delivery for data teams. This role is critical in ensuring the efficient development and delivery of key data products, bridging the gap between senior management and development teams while fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment.
Reporting to the Data Program Management Lead, the Data Scrum Master will work closely with Data Engineers, Domain Analysts, and other stakeholders to drive alignment, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Major Responsibilities
Agile Delivery and Facilitation
- Support data teams, including data analysts and data engineers, in achieving sprint and data product goals.
- Facilitate Scrum ceremonies such as sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives to maintain alignment and drive continuous improvement.
- Promote an MVP mindset, ensuring incremental value delivery rather than waiting for perfection.
Stakeholder and Expectation Management
- Collaborate with data product owners to translate business initiatives into actionable backlog items.
- Manage expectations, ensuring leadership understands the team’s capacity and realistic delivery timelines.
- Support the team in navigating uncertainty, enabling them to pivot quickly in dynamic environments.
- Ensure alignment between team deliverables and the broader data product and business strategy.
Data-Driven Decision-Making and Continuous Improvement
- Leverage data to improve estimation accuracy, predict delivery timelines, and enhance efficiency.
- Track and report on key Agile metrics such as sprint velocity and burndown charts to maintain transparency.
- Identify and remove blockers, ensuring smooth execution and team productivity.
Team Development and Technical Awareness
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning, while adapting leadership style to build trust and motivation.
- Balance speed and quality, considering trade-offs in technical debt, scalability, and reliability.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
- Five or more years of experience as a Scrum Master, specifically in data-focused teams such as data engineering, analytics, or data science.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to align teams and facilitate discussions effectively.
- Proven ability to facilitate Agile best practices, adapting them to data-driven projects.
- Certified Scrum Master or Professional Scrum Master certification.
- Experience with cloud-based data environments such as Databricks or Azure.
- Background in data product development.
