At Modo Energy, we're building the global standard for benchmarking and valuing the world's electrification assets - unlocking returns for battery energy storage, solar, wind and data centres.

We’re looking for a smart, driven Data Scientist to join our US Forecasting team and help deliver Modo Energy’s power market forecasts to our users as we build trustworthy revenue projections across multiple geographies and asset classes. These tools are used by organizations across the industry to finance, build, benchmark, and operate the infrastructure assets that will power the energy transition.


What you’ll do

Build market-leading models
Develop and enhance our in-house suite of power market and dispatch models, directly expanding the depth and accuracy of Modo’s product offering.

Turn complex data into insight
Source, process, and interpret large, complex datasets used as inputs to our forecasting and optimisation models.

Own quality and credibility
Analyse model outputs and perform rigorous quality assurance to ensure the highest standards across our published numbers and customer-facing deliverables.

Shape the forecast narrative
Craft the story behind our forecasts, including expectations around future policy, market design, and structural changes in power markets.

Build for the user
Work in a product-focused way to ensure our forecasts and tools align closely with user needs and deliver clear value across the wider Modo team.

Work across teams
Partner closely with our development team to ensure seamless integration of models and outputs into the Modo Energy Terminal.


What we’re looking for

Experience that counts

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field (mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics, or similar)
  • 3–5 years’ experience using Python (or another programming language such as R, C++, or Java)
  • Proven experience producing high-visibility, customer-facing analytical outputs
  • Previous experience modelling power systems and/or energy assets, particularly:
    • Power price forecasting
    • Optimisation and dispatch models
    • Locational dynamics and real-time operations
  • Familiarity with US power markets, including renewable technologies, market design, and regulatory frameworks
  • A builder mentality, with a track record of using AI to optimise, improve, and innovate analytical workflows.

Technical skills that matter

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with a track record of solving complex technical problems
  • Experience with the scientific Python stack (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, scikit-learn)
  • Hands-on experience with cloud environments (e.g. AWS)
  • Experience with linear programming and optimisation frameworks

Curious, detail-oriented, and commercially aware. You care deeply about data quality, enjoy turning technical work into clear narratives, and thrive when working closely with engineers, product teams, and customers.


The details

Location: New York
Work setup: We’re an in-person company that values collaboration and team culture. Everyone works in the office Tuesday through Thursday, with flexibility to work from home or the office on Mondays and Fridays.

Compensation: $110,000–$170,000 per year, depending on experience.

Benefits: 25 days annual leave; medical, dental, and vision benefits; 401(k) with optional matching contribution.
