About Modo Energy

The energy transition is the biggest infrastructure buildout in human history. Modo Energy is the data platform at the centre of it.

We build the benchmarking, forecasting, and valuation tools that the world's most serious energy investors, developers, and operators depend on to make decisions. If a battery gets financed, built, or traded anywhere in the world, there's a good chance Modo data was in the room.

Founded in 2019, we're 90+ people across London, New York, Sydney, and Madrid; $30M Series B, AI-native, and moving fast.

This is a rare chance to join a category-defining company at the moment it's scaling globally.

Market Analyst, Research (ERCOT)

Reports to: US Research Lead
Team: Research
Regions: ERCOT

About the role

Developers, traders, investors and utilities read Modo's research to understand what happened in the market and why. This role writes it.

The work runs from monthly benchmark articles and market explainers through to the outlook pieces clients plan around. You will own the coverage of one or more US markets, watching them closely enough to notice when something changes, then explaining it before anyone else does. Lead times are short. A good piece this week beats a perfect one next month.

What you will do

  • Publish research. Write the benchmark articles, explainers and notes for the markets you cover.
  • Watch your markets. Follow prices, policy and asset behaviour closely enough to spot what matters early.
  • Do your own analysis. Pull the data, run the numbers, and build the charts that carry the argument.
  • Answer for your work. Stand behind what you publish with clients, on calls, and in public.
  • Work with other teams:
    • Modeling - tell them what the market is doing and where the models do not yet reflect it.
    • Advisory - share the market read behind client work, and bring back the questions clients are asking.
    • Revenue - join technical sales and post-sales calls where clients want the analyst, not the pitch.

What you need

  • Degree in engineering, economics, maths, or a related field
  • 2+ years analysing power markets, in research, consulting, trading, or development
  • You have written analysis that someone outside your team read and used
  • You know how at least one US power market clears energy and ancillary services
  • You can pull and analyse your own data in SQL and Python
  • You can combine data and findings from several sources into one coherent argument
  • You write clearly, and you take editing well

Nice to have

  • Experience covering battery storage revenues or renewable build-out
  • Experience presenting to clients or at industry events
  • A public body of written work — articles, a newsletter, or a research blog

Compensation & Equal Opportunity

  • Base salary range: $110,000–$170,000 per year, depending on experience
  • The salary range listed reflects industry benchmarks for this role. Modo Energy's policy is to pay top of personal market - if you're exceptional, we'll make it work
  • Equity
  • 25 days PTO plus 10 paid Holidays annually
  • 100% employer paid medical, dental and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with matching
  • Modo Energy is an equal opportunity employer - employment decisions are made on the basis of qualifications, merit, and business need.
