Engineering Manager manages teams across multiple product domains, setting quality standards, fostering collaborative development, facilitating cross-departmental coordination and decision-making, and ensuring reliable and timely product releases.
What you'll actually do
- Build and grow the team by hiring diverse talent and ensuring smooth onboarding and mentorship.
- Lead and inspire by fostering collaboration, engagement, and a high-performance culture, motivating the team to achieve and exceed results while leading by example and engaging directly in operational challenges when needed.
- Develop and support people through coaching, feedback, regular performance reviews, and tailored growth planning.
- Take ownership and make decisions with accountability and timely, informed judgment.
- Align multiple teams with engineering strategy and clarify crossteam responsibilities.
- Serve as a link between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
- Coordinate work across multiple teams within the domain, ensuring consistency in architectural principles.
- Participate in technical planning and reporting processes, set goals for the team.
- Analyze and fill detected/predictable resource gaps to prevent delivery bottlenecks.
- Participate in planning and reporting, incl. resource allocation on domain level, for the teams.
- Develop detailed project plans, manage resources, and monitor progress across teams (not only direct reports).
- Manage resources and budgets within the team for cost efficiency (example: external services, tools, etc).
- Cascade the technical vision and software development strategy.
- Facilitate critical decisions on technology standards, stacks, tools, and frameworks.
- Define effectiveness metrics for the domain. Responsible for domain results and efficiency.
- Serves as the final authority and subject-matter expert within the domain.
- Proactively identify and mitigate technical and project-related risks.
- Act as a change agent to support organizational changes and implement management decisions.
- Define principles of working with technical debt.
- Identify and evaluate emerging technologies, propose innovative solutions, and contribute to tech roadmap.
- Support the incident management process within the area of responsibility.
- Ensure continuous quality improvement processes* are on the cutting edge, effectively implemented and executed (Root Cause Analysis, Post Mortem Analysis, Incident Management, Software Delivery, Testing, Code Review, etc.)
- Ensure technical support and software quality comply with standards and reqs appropriate to their level.
- Independently solve technical problems that match own expertise.
Who we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Relevant certifications in software architecture, agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, SAFe), or cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure) are considered an advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience leading several teams of a total of 20–40 technical specialists, with several (3–5) experienced direct reports
- Experience with managing managers: hiring, growing, corner cases
- Track record of managing the performance and development of highly skilled engineers, including senior and lead positions
- Extensive technical knowledge and deep expertise in building modern, customer-facing products
- Knowledge and hands-on experience in building robust software systems
- Ability to establish and optimize engineering processes related to quality, release, and other parameters
- Understanding of how to align multiple teams to collaborate on a single product across multiple platforms
- Ability to decompose business requirements, metrics, and KPIs into development teams
- Ability to combine deep-diving into details of source code for particular service and delegation of high-level tasks to Team Leaders who report to you
- Strong understanding of both process and people management
- Ability to combine a passion for technology with effective communication skills and enjoy problem-solving in a dynamic environment
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work seamlessly with other departments on a cross-functional basis
- Product development and project management skills
- Experience in building High Available system, realtime processing
- Strong knowledge of trading domain
- Strong stakeholder management (multiple high-priority stakeholders)
