Senior Database Engineer
Why this role matters
As a Senior Database Engineer at Exness, you will join a senior team of database engineers and platform engineers responsible for the company’s large-scale database and data platform infrastructure.
The team operates hundreds of production database clusters across PostgreSQL, MongoDB, ClickHouse, Cassandra, and other distributed data systems powering critical global workloads. In addition to operating these environments, the team develops internal platform solutions and automation tooling that enable reliability, scalability, observability, and efficient self-service operations across the engineering organization.
This is not a traditional DBA role. The position combines database engineering, platform engineering, automation, and reliability engineering. You will work on high-scale systems, improve operational excellence, automate complex workflows, and help evolve the next generation of Exness’s internal data platform capabilities.
The role is based in our office in Limassol, Cyprus. In case of relocation, we offer full relocation support for you and your family to make your move smooth and worry-free.
What you'll actually do

- Own replication strategies, failover mechanisms, and data consistency models
- Ensure reliability of database platforms in production environments
- Lead incident response and root cause analysis for database-related issues
- Independently troubleshoot and resolve complex database performance and reliability issues
- Define preventive measures to eliminate recurring issues
- Analyze and optimize complex queries and database workloads
- Design indexing strategies and data models for high-load systems
- Identify and eliminate system-wide performance bottlenecks
- Design and implement automation for database operations (backups, failover, scaling)
- Improve Infrastructure-as-Code and deployment processes for databases
- Reduce manual operational workload through automation
- Plan and manage capacity for growing datasets and workloads
- Optimize storage, compute usage, and performance trade-offs
- Support large-scale data processing systems
- Define and enforce database security standards (roles, privileges, auditing)
- Ensure compliance with internal security policies
- Protect sensitive data through secure configurations and practices
- Partner with developers, SRE, and infrastructure teams to design efficient solutions
- Provide guidance on database usage, performance, and best practices
- Act as a subject matter expert for database-related decisions
- Mentor junior and mid-level database engineers
- Conduct reviews of database changes and operational practices
- Drive adoption of best practices across teams

- Strong experience with HA/DR strategies and database clustering
- Understanding of SLI/SLO principles and production reliability practices
- Advanced performance tuning and query optimization skills
- Strong understanding of database fundamentals: consistency, isolation, scaling
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)
- Experience with automation (scripts, IaC, CI/CD pipelines)
