The Role
Reporter – Home and Auto Insurance | P&C Specialist
We are looking for an experienced reporter to cover home and auto insurers and the personal lines' side of the property and casualty (P&C) insurance industry.
P&C Specialist, a publication from the Financial Times group, provides insurance companies with the news and intelligence they need to grow their businesses. We seek crisp writing, innovative reporting approaches, visual thinking, and stories that make an impact. We’re an agile digital publication with a team of journalists passionate about understanding what drives our readers and delivering the content and information they need.
As a reporter, you will write everything from scoops to analytical trend pieces, examining how companies respond to industry threats and opportunities and how these themes impact products, hiring practices, sales efforts, and technology. You will build a strong source network and become a trusted provider of news for our sophisticated readers.
Key Responsibilities
- Cover the personal lines P&C insurance beat, focusing on home and auto insurers.
- Write at least three fully sourced and reported articles per week.
- Develop scoops, trend pieces, and enterprise stories.
- Build video content periodically.
- Engage with readers and respond to their informational needs.
- Build and maintain a deep, trusted network of industry sources.
Required Skills / Experience
- A proven record of high-quality reporting.
- Experience covering a beat and generating scoops and distinctive content.
- Intellectual curiosity, persistence, creativity, and high energy.
- Ability to recognize and serve the needs of a specialized readership.
- High personal standards and pride in journalistic output.
- Financial services knowledge is a plus but not required—eagerness to learn the industry is important.
- A collaborative demeanor and desire for growth in a dynamic team environment.

Further Information
A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $71,000-$87,500 for a reporter and $87,500-$99,000 for a senior reporter, who has demonstrated experience and strong qualifications. To ensure pay fairness, the successful candidate will be offered a salary within the estimated salary range based on a number of considerations including but not limited to: skills; experience and training; certifications; and other business and organisational needs. The disclosed range estimate is for our NYC office and has not been adjusted for other locations.
