What is this role about?

The Head of Legal, Marketing & AML/KYC will serve as the primary legal partner for Bondora’s Marketing organization, working closely with the Chief Marketing Officer to ensure compliance while helping the marketing team find opportunities to stay competitive and unlock creative arbitrage strategies across markets. This role is about much more than legal compliance—it’s about driving business results by balancing regulatory rigor with commercial ambition.

You will navigate complex legal landscapes, negotiate contracts, protect intellectual property, and ensure alignment with marketing, advertising, and data privacy laws, all while supporting a team that manages a €6M+ budget and delivers 600,000+ applications annually across core markets. Your mission will be to empower the marketing team to execute innovative, results-driven campaigns confidently, while maintaining compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a business-oriented advisor to the marketing team, driving compliance and innovative strategies to improve conversion rates and customer experiences at the top of the loan application funnel.
  • Ensure AML/KYC processes are efficient, customer-friendly, and compliant, supporting A/B testing and scalability as Bondora expands into new markets.
  • Ensure campaigns comply with marketing laws and data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, ePrivacy) while identifying compliance-friendly opportunities to gain a competitive edge.
  • Oversee compliance in app development and operations, addressing app store policies, data privacy, and legal risks tied to functionality and user experience.
  • Enable bold, creative campaigns by balancing innovation with legal risk management, ensuring reputational and regulatory risks are minimized.
  • Draft, negotiate, and streamline contracts with vendors and affiliates, including AML/KYC service providers, to improve operational efficiency.
  • Safeguard trademarks, copyrights, and other IP assets while managing licensing requirements for creative content.
  • Provide training on legal and compliance topics while embedding best practices into marketing workflows to support scalable, high-performance operations.

What would ensure success in this role?

  • Law degree with specialization in commercial, advertising, or data privacy law.
  • At least 10 years of experience in legal roles focused on marketing, advertising, or compliance, with exposure to high-volume, high-budget marketing environments.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing or mentoring legal teams, with the ability to lead and develop direct reports effectively.
  • Deep understanding of AML/KYC regulations and experience optimizing related processes in a high-growth environment.
  • Deep knowledge of marketing, advertising, and consumer protection laws across multiple jurisdictions, including GDPR, AML/KYC, and compliance with adv standards.
  • A proven ability to align legal strategy with business objectives, identifying arbitrage and opportunities to give the company a competitive edge.
  • A proactive and business-oriented approach to legal counsel, with a focus on delivering measurable business results while mitigating risk.
  • Advanced contract negotiation and drafting skills, with a strategic approach to managing legal risks.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, providing clear, actionable legal guidance to cross-functional teams.
