What is this role about?

We are looking for a Head of Legal, Responsible Lending to lead the legal oversight of our consumer lending operations across multiple markets. In this role, you will ensure that our credit products and processes are fully compliant with Estonian and EU regulatory frameworks while supporting Bondora’s responsible growth and market expansion goals.
You’ll serve as a key legal partner to senior leadership and cross-functional teams, shaping consumer credit compliance strategies that uphold the highest standards of transparency, fairness, and legal integrity. From interpreting regulatory changes, engaging with supervisory authority, advising on credit issuance policies, and collaborating with product and data teams, your work will directly influence how we deliver safe, ethical, and accessible financial solutions across Europe.

Your main responsibilities will be:

• Developing and implementing legal strategies to ensure compliance with Estonian and EU consumer lending regulations.
• Monitoring legal developments at EU and local levels and providing timely, practical guidance to the credit team.
• Designing, reviewing, and updating group-wide credit issuance policies and procedures.
• Ensuring adherence to responsible lending principles and consumer protection laws across all markets.
• Identifying and mitigating legal risks related to lending products, pricing, policies, and debt collection practices.
• Advising senior management on legal risk exposure to ensure lending operations align with ethical and regulatory standards.
• Providing legal support to internal stakeholders, including Credit Managers, Data Scientists, Product Managers, and others involved in lending processes.

What would ensure success in this role?

• Deep knowledge of EU financial services and consumer credit law.
• Strong understanding of responsible lending frameworks and their practical application.
• Experience in regulatory engagement, ideally with the Estonian Financial Supervisory Authority or equivalent supervisory authorities.
• Expertise in contract law, debt recovery regulation, and credit scoring compliance.
• Hands-on experience in legal policy drafting at a group or pan-European level.
• Proven ability to align and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
