FP&A Analyst, The Economist 

The Economist is a leading source of analysis on international business and world affairs. We deliver information through various formats, from print and digital to online courses, events and films. Role overview 

As an FP&A Analyst, you will play an important role in supporting The Economist’s global operations. You will be involved in designing efficient processes to support our finance management, analyzing performance metrics, providing forward-thinking analyses, and supporting business cases for new revenue streams. 

Your responsibilities will include assisting with consolidating global budget and forecast submissions from various business stakeholders, collaborating closely with stakeholders to prepare accurate and timely monthly management information, and developing presentations for the MD and CFO.

Utilizing our cloud-based reporting and planning tool, Anaplan, you will streamline processes and enhance efficiency. You will also build and maintain strong relationships with the reporting and group finance teams to drive process improvements and support the company's forward momentum. 

This role will report to the Senior FP&A manager. You will be comfortable working at pace across different business structures, managing multiple priorities and dealing with various stakeholders across the business. 

How you will contribute: 

  • Prepare monthly presentation decks including commentary, analysis of trends and KPI’s for senior management (including presenting to FD/MD/Group CFO).You’ll work with the business to provide commentary on key performance against budget, prior year and forecast comparators 
  • Own month end/forecast and budget processes across various revenue streams and cost areas. This includes modelling, analysis and reporting.
  • Assist with cost analysis and reporting 
  • Partner with the BI team to deliver tableau dashboards that provides insight into revenue performance and other key subscriber metrics 
  • Support our monthly rolling reforecasting. Working with the business to ensure an accurate view of expected performance between quarterly forecasts. 
  • Support the global budget and quarterly forecasts in Anaplan, becoming the system & process expert, and continually seeking for improvements & efficiencies 
  • Continually improve processes to ensure data is robust allowing time for more value add tasks 
  • Work closely with Group accounting teams to ensure reporting submissions are timely and accurate
  • Deliver ad-hoc analysis, insight and financial modeling to support business decisions and provide insight for stakeholders

The ideal skills for this role are: 

  • A university qualification and an accountancy qualification (CIMA/ACCA/ACA or equivalent) 
  • Highly analytical, with close attention to detail 
  • Strong organizational skills - able to coordinate multiple inputs to deliver against tight deadlines 
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Proven experience in improving processes 
  • Ability to present information with clarity for a non-financial audience 
  • Engagement and commitment, showing ownership of responsibilities 
  • A growth mindset, striving to be better every day 

Additional experience and skills advantageous: 

  • Experience working in a global business with multiple products, currencies and geographic locations 
  • Proactive, ready to challenge our current thinking 
  • Curiosity about the world, The Economist Group and its customers 
  • Experience of Anaplan would be beneficial but not essential 
  • Flexibility, able to adapt to changing priorities and structures 
  • Self-motivated to look for new ideas to streamline and simplify process 
  • A track record as a good team player, committed to the success of the team as a whole
