Engineering Manager - Runtime & Services

This team owns and operates a broad portfolio of internal engineering capabilities, including:
- A high-performance, cross-language runtime environment and reusable service templates
- Core engineering primitives like distributed caching, eventing, and configuration management
- Shared internal packages and SDKs across C#, Python, and JavaScript
- Platform-wide Document Management Services and Content Management Sub-System
- Company-wide Messaging Infrastructure, including transactional email, SMS, and push notifications
Location: Hybrid (3 days in office/2 days remote) – New York, NY, Santa Monica, CA, or Aliso Viejo, CA
About the Team:
- Cross-language runtime environments and reusable service templates
- Shared packages and libraries for consistent development experiences
- Internal platforms such as:
- Document Management Service
- Content Management Sub-System
- Messaging Frameworks powering transactional Email, SMS, and Push notifications
- Foundational infrastructure like distributed caching and configuration services
What You’ll Do:
- Lead the team in building, evolving, and maintaining core engineering services and internal platforms:
- Messaging systems used across StubHub for transactional communication (Email, SMS, Push)
- Content and Document Management services
- Runtime host environments and reusable service scaffolds
- Distributed caching strategies and configuration management tooling
- Internal SDKs and cross-language shared packages
- Establish and promote best practices for service integration and performance
- Ensure internal services are intuitive, reliable, and optimized for developer adoption and scalability
- Drive consistency and high standards across all team-owned APIs and developer interfaces

- A strong pipeline of internal talent and a team that continuously improves its impact-per-head over time.
What We’re Looking For:
- 7+ years of engineering experience, including technical ownership of production systems and business-critical software.
- 2+ years of people leadership experience, with a track record of hiring and developing high-performing teams.
- Strong technical background in backend, infrastructure, APIs, or data systems (Java, C++, Python, or similar).
- Proven ability to drive execution, define clear success metrics, and solve complex problems with data and rigor.
- Skilled in managing ambiguity, prioritizing ruthlessly, and delivering under tight timelines.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, service design, integration patterns, and system performance Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across org boundaries

The anticipated gross base pay range is below for this role. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and competencies. Base annual salary is one component of StubHub’s total compensation and competitive benefits package, which includes equity, 401(k), paid time off, paid parental leave, and comprehensive health benefits.

$300,000 - $400,000 USD
