Our values include supporting flat hierarchies, taking ownership and responsibility, seeking and providing feedback, managing constructive critique, and speaking our minds. We understand that the best ideas don’t all come from the same place, so we encourage diversity and inclusion in all areas of our work.

The future of fintech is about more than money, and we believe in work-life balance, continual learning, and empowered teams. We’re also on a journey to measure and improve our environmental and social impact. From virtual cards to digital subscriptions, our software and automation help take paper out of the equation for our customers, too.

We’re changing the world of payments, and we’re looking for an exceptional team to help us.

About the role

Payhawk is scaling its brand and digital presence, and we’re strengthening our creative leadership to match that ambition. As Design & Creative Team Lead, you’ll lead a multidisciplinary team of brand, web, and graphic designers within the Brand & Communications organisation, partnering closely with Brand and Web leadership to shape how Payhawk looks, feels, and performs across all marketing touchpoints.

This is a hands-on leadership role that blends creative direction, digital and UX excellence, and design system stewardship. You’ll set clear standards, coach and develop designers, and remain actively involved in high-impact work — ensuring our website, campaigns, and brand experiences are premium, intuitive, and performance-driven.

Your team’s work directly influences how prospects perceive Payhawk and how effectively our marketing converts attention into engagement and pipeline.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead creative direction across web, brand, campaigns, motion, and events — translating business and product priorities into strong, cohesive creative work.
  • Own digital experience and UX quality in partnership with Web leadership, ensuring marketing experiences are intuitive, insight-led, and conversion-focused.
  • Evolve Payhawk’s design system and brand standards, enabling consistency, speed, and scalable self-serve usage across the marketing organisation.
  • Run creative operations, including intake, prioritisation, quality control, and predictable delivery across initiatives.
  • Lead and develop the design team, setting a high craft bar through mentorship, critiques, clear direction, and hands-on guidance when needed.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Brand, Web, Product Marketing, and other stakeholders to ensure creative work supports strategic goals.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional design experience, including in-house experience at a SaaS or tech company.
  • 3+ years of experience leading or mentoring multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Strong experience shaping web and digital experiences in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to build and evolve design systems, templates, and reusable components.
  • Excellent visual, interaction, and UX design skills across web, campaign, and brand formats.
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma (components, libraries, prototyping); strong skills in Adobe Illustrator.
  • Working knowledge of motion design principles and the ability to review or guide motion work.
  • Solid understanding of UX principles, conversion design, information architecture, and accessibility.
  • Comfortable using data, insights, and research to inform design decisions.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present, justify, and influence creative direction.
  • Experience working with creative intake, prioritisation, and delivery processes (e.g. Jira or similar tools).

We know exceptional creative leaders come with different strengths, and we don’t expect a perfect checklist match. If you’re excited by the mission, bring strong creative and digital experience, and feel you can grow into the full scope of this role, we’d love to hear from you.

Please note that, unfortunately, we cannot provide visa sponsorship, and to be considered for this role, candidates must be able to provide proof of their eligibility to work in Bulgaria.
