Join us as an Component Owner (all genders) - Cameras in our Autonomous Driving team and help shape the future of autonomous mobility!

The Hardware Development Team is responsible for the end-to-end development of all key hardware components of the SelfDriving System (SDS), including cameras, radars, lidars, and high-performance compute platforms. We collaborate closely with national and international partners, Tier1 suppliers, and diverse stakeholders across the Volkswagen Group to deliver robust, future ready hardware solutions for autonomous driving. 

What you will do

Component Ownership

  • End-to-end BTV responsibility for the SDS camera components across the full development process, from concept phase to SOP.
  • Full accountability for technical maturity, compliance, timing, cost, and deliverables of the camera components across all relevant development and release milestones.
  • Own the layout of the complete sensor set and the vehicle integration, including definition of sensor positions, viewing directions, package requirements, and integration in the respective vehicle areas using CAD tools, especially Catia V5.
  • Act as the central cross-functional interface for development, integration, quality, safety, security, procurement, production, and all affected engineering functions to align requirements, package space, and integration status.
  • Lead technical reviews and steer Tier-1 suppliers end to end, including work product tracking, issue escalation, delivery performance, and release readiness throughout the development process.

Testing & Validation (Supplier Management)

  • Lead planning and tracking of all validation activities for hardware and software including vehicle integration tests.
  • Review and approve supplier test plans, performance reports, and corrective actions.

Documentation & Processes

  • Create and maintain specifications, requirements documents, verification plans, and integration documentation.
  • Manage component approval and release processes using corporate tools and certified workflows.

Personal Skills

  • Strong communication skills in German and English.
  • High degree of ownership and proactive working style.
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong cross-functional collaboration abilities.

What will help you to fulfill your role 

  • A university degree in electronics, engineering or similar and profound experience in the automotive industry.
  • Profound experience of component responsibility (BTV) activities such as requirement engineering, testing, project management and release procedures within the automotive branch with automotive standards.
  • In-depth understanding of automotive hardware and software development lifecycles.
  • Strong knowledge of OEM development processes such as PEP, ASPICE and corporate release procedures.
  • Advanced hands-on knowledge of CAD tools, especially Catia V5, ideally combined with Siemens Teamcenter, with proven ability to develop sensor layouts, resolve packaging constraints, and support vehicle integration.
  • Understanding of Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and SOTIF.
  • Capability to navigate supplier development, reporting and approval systems to lead the internal release process.
