Simulation Developer (m/f/d) - Verification & Validation

Join us as a Simulation Developer (m/f/d) in our Verification & Validation team and help shape the future of autonomous mobility!
As the Verification & Validation team, we build the simulation infrastructure that enables safe, scalable testing of autonomous driving systems. We create the scenario toolchains, 3D environments, vehicle models, and digital twins that bring virtual validation to life.
We're a technical group with backgrounds in simulation engineering, software development, 3D modeling, and automotive systems. We value craftsmanship, automation, and the drive to build tools that enable high-fidelity testing at scale.
What you will do
Be a simulation developer!
-
Design and implement advanced scenario toolchains, integrating automation frameworks to streamline scenario generation, execution, and analysis.
-
Build reusable components for scenario configuration, execution, and result evaluation to ensure scalability and efficiency.
-
Develop and maintain simulation infrastructure using industry-standard tools (VTD, Unity, Unreal, Carla, ASM).
-
Configure and optimize hardware and software infrastructure for scalable simulation execution.
-
Ensure compatibility across multiple simulation platforms and maintain robust version control and documentation for all assets.
Be a digital twin engineer!
-
Design and implement high-fidelity 3D environments that accurately represent real-world conditions.
-
Develop, calibrate, and validate vehicle models, including dynamics, sensors, and control systems.
-
Integrate digital twins into simulation workflows for system validation and testing.
-
Work with sensor models (camera, lidar, radar) to create realistic perception scenarios.
-
Collaborate with domain experts to define environment parameters, constraints, and performance metrics.
Be a team player!
-
Collaborate closely with V&V engineers, test engineers, and function developers to understand requirements and deliver simulation solutions.
-
Support cross-functional teams with simulation tooling, integration, and troubleshooting.
-
Contribute to internal standards, share knowledge, and shape the simulation roadmap across teams.
-
Maintain clean code, documentation, and APIs for reusable simulation components.
What will help you to fulfill your role
-
You have a background in software engineering, simulation development, game development, or computer graphics, with hands-on experience building simulation systems. You're proficient in Python and optionally C++ for simulation scripting, automation, and model integration.
-
Experience with simulation platforms (VTD, Unity, Unreal, Carla, ASM) is highly valued. You have experience building 3D environments, vehicle models, or sensor models using tools like Unity, Unreal Engine, or similar platforms.
-
You're familiar with automation frameworks and understand how to build reusable, scalable components for scenario toolchains.
-
You have a systematic and engineering-oriented mindset, comfortable debugging complex systems, optimizing performance, and maintaining high code quality.
- You're a strong collaborator, able to work with domain experts to translate requirements into technical implementations.
Nice to have:
-
Experience with ROS / ROS2 or other robotics middleware.
-
Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) and software-in-the-loop (SiL) setups, including sensor simulation and integration.
-
Knowledge of Open Scenario formats and scenario-based testing methodologies.
-
Understanding of autonomous driving systems, perception, planning, or control functions.
-
Experience with vehicle dynamics modeling, sensor calibration, or physics simulation.
-
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and on-premises compute infrastructure.
-
Knowledge of safety standards (ISO 26262, ASPICE) or EU regulations for autonomous vehicles.
- Background in computer vision, deep neural networks, or machine learning.
-
You're comfortable working in a multi-national team with occasional travel for meetings (e.g., PI Planning, ~1x/month). You value diverse perspectives and enjoy working in a hybrid environment where experimentation and learning are encouraged.
-
Most importantly, you're excited about building the simulation infrastructure that enables safe autonomous driving.
We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds — even if you don’t meet every requirement. If you’re excited about the role and MOIA’s mission, we’d love to hear from you!
