Range Safety Engineer (m/f/d)
Mission Brief
You will be an integral part of the Mission and Launch Operations team who manages the mission, all range safety aspects, the licensing and the launch and flight operations. The role will be dynamic and flexible, and you will be required to work with Isar aerospace colleagues, as well as range and licensing authorities. You will have to supervise a spectrum of range safety topics, depending on your expertise, that can vary from the safety systems to the range interfaces, as well as development of test procedures or launch operations.
Your Role in Our Space Mission:
- Manage interfaces with the launch range that are used for launch operations
- Interfaces between airborne flight safety systems and ground-based flight safety systems
- Interfaces between launch range and flight safety systems
- Interfaces between launch control systems and launch vehicle data
- Coordinate the requirement management and development of safety systems (tracking sources, flight Termination systems, telemetry stations)
- Manage documentation related to range safety systems
- Perform qualitative and quantitative risk assessments on flight or ground operations
- Contribute to the licensing approval process
- Support and contribute to launch operations (preparation and execution)
- Support mishap investigations
Qualification Checklist
- M.Sc. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear engineering or similar
- At least 3 years of experience, with proven experience in any of the following topics: airborne/ground-based tracking systems, flight/ground safety, launch/flight operations, systems engineering (preferably, safety systems)
- Knowledge of launch vehicle architecture and safety systems architecture (tracking, FTS, telemetry)
- Experience in interfacing with external parties (i.e., Aviation authorities, Military, Range)
- Capability of working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment with several stakeholders
- Experience with risks assessment related to ground and launch operations (i.e., pressure vessels, explosives or cryogenic fluids)
- Fluent in English
Bonus Skills
- Experience with RCC 319, FAA 450, FSOA (RT/REI)
- Knowledge of radar systems, inertial/hybrid navigation, GNSS
- Basic MATLAB/Python programming skills
