Senior Systems Engineer
Senior Systems Engineer
BOLD is committed to shaping the future of high-performance mobility from Formula 1 to aviation and marine. In our mission to deliver innovative and impactful products in the mobility sector, we are building the company whilst working with clients in exciting engineering and manufacturing challenges.
As a Senior Systems Engineer for Battery Design at BOLD, you will play a critical leadership role in bringing cutting-edge battery systems from concept through design, production, and post-launch support. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams of engineers, including battery designers, hardware, and software engineers, ensuring that our high-voltage battery systems meet the highest safety and performance standards. With a strong focus on system and functional safety, you will drive the design and development of safety-critical systems across the entire product lifecycle, from initial specification analysis to serial production and after-sales support.
We are seeking a senior-level engineer with extensive experience in developing complex, safety-critical systems, preferably in high-voltage battery systems or similar technologies. This role requires a deep understanding of requirements-based engineering and system safety standards, along with the ability to lead and mentor within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Develop Battery System Requirements with a Safety Focus:
- Define and develop high-voltage battery system requirements, with a particular emphasis on functional safety and compliance with international safety standards.
- Lead the development of high- and low-voltage system architectures, ensuring that all safety-critical elements are addressed at both system and component levels.
- Integrate safety considerations into the entire design process, including functional safety and hazard analysis, failure mode effects analysis (FMEA), and fault tree analysis (FTA).
- System Design and Architecture:
- Oversee the development and validation of electro-thermal battery computational models to ensure that safety and performance requirements are met.
- Define boundary conditions, input parameters, and interfaces for CAE activities, focusing on electrical, mechanical, and thermal integration.
- Lead design reviews, safety analyses, and simulations to ensure that the system architecture meets all safety and performance criteria.
- Verification, Validation, and Compliance:
- Develop comprehensive verification and validation (V&V) plans, procedures, and safety test protocols to ensure that all system requirements, especially safety requirements, are fully validated and verified.
- Lead or oversee testing activities to confirm compliance with functional safety standards and generate detailed test reports.
- Collaborate with certification bodies and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with all relevant safety, qualification and certification standards.
- Cross-Functional Leadership and Mentorship:
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a strong culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with hardware, software, and mechanical teams to ensure seamless integration of safety-critical systems.
- Act as a key technical leader in cross-functional project teams, driving technical decisions and ensuring that safety considerations are prioritized throughout the product lifecycle.
Minimum qualifications, skills and experience
- Experience and Expertise:
- 5+ years of experience as a systems engineer or technical project leader for complex, safety-critical systems, particularly those involving electrical, electronic, software, and mechanical components.
- Proven experience in high-voltage battery system development, including safety analysis, design, and validation.
- Deep understanding of functional safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and/or SAE ARP 4754 / 4761) and their application in the development of safety-critical systems.
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in requirements-based engineering processes and the use of requirements management tools (Polarion, JAMA, DOORS, or similar).
- Strong experience with development-related analysis methods (FMEA, FTA, V-model) and system safety techniques.
- Proficiency in system simulation and modeling tools, such as MATLAB/Simulink, and familiarity with programming languages like C++, Python, or equivalent.
- Leadership and Communication:
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and mentor within cross-functional engineering teams.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex technical information to stakeholders at all levels.
- Fluent in English, with the ability to collaborate effectively with global teams.
Desirable skills and additional experience
- Advanced experience in the design, development, and validation of high-voltage battery systems for automotive, aerospace, or industrial applications.
- Expertise in the use of simulation tools and software development for battery management systems (BMS) and other safety-critical components.
- Knowledge of certification processes and standards for battery systems, including safety, environmental, and transportation regulations.
Compensation and benefits
- Competitive compensation.
- Flexible compensation
- Health insurance
- Kindergarten
- Dining room & subsidized catering.
- Flexible Work Schedule (5 days month remote work)
- Regular events and team building activities
