Civil engineering at the heart of complex energy projects.

BakerHicks is looking for a Civil Engineer to join our team, working on technically demanding projects across the power and energy sector. From substations and grid connections to renewable energy developments, you’ll be involved in creating the civil designs that support some of the UK’s most important energy projects.

There’s also scope to work across other sectors including defence, transportation and industrial, giving you the opportunity to broaden your experience and take on varied technical challenges.

What you’ll be working on

You’ll take an active role in developing civil designs from concept through to detailed design, working as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team. This will include:

  • Developing designs for drainage, earthworks, external works and utilities.
  • Producing detailed drawings, specifications, calculations and technical reports.
  • Coordinating civil designs with structural, electrical and other engineering disciplines.
  • Reviewing technical information, calculations and subcontractor designs.
  • Contributing to design reviews and ensuring work meets the required technical and quality standards.
  • Sharing knowledge and supporting the development of less experienced engineers.

What you’ll bring to the team

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Professional experience in civil engineering design and project delivery.
  • Experience with drainage, earthworks and external works.
  • Power sector experience is desirable, although experience from other relevant sectors will also be considered.
  • Experience using Civil 3D, AutoCAD or similar design software.
  • Good knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards, CDM regulations and BIM processes.
  • Working towards Chartered or Incorporated status through ICE or IStructE, or a clear commitment to achieving it.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with clients and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Eligibility for security clearance where required for project work.

The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance or assurance level for this role, in line with client and sector requirements.
