Senior Product Manager Core Banking

Paris, Paris, France

We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to join our Core Banking squad and help create the best BNPL payment solution in Europe.

About Alma

At Alma, we're reinventing finance to serve those who matter the most : merchants and consumers. Our instalment and deferred payment solutions help merchants boost sales by up to 20%, increase customer loyalty, and deliver a seamless shopping experience — all without encouraging debt. As the BNPL leader in France and active in 10 European countries, we've empowered over 21000 merchants and 8 million consumers. With a team of 340+ Almakers and a €115M Series C funding round, Alma is rapidly scaling across Europe — and this is just the beginning.

Your mission

As Senior Product Manager in the Core Banking squad, you will own one of Alma's most strategic and complex domains: the financial engine that records, governs, and secures all money movements across our products. Your mission is to identify and deliver opportunities that strengthen our core financial infrastructure: from evolving our ledger and accounting models, to enhancing pricing and refinancing capabilities, and ensuring seamless reconciliation, compliance, and reporting across the organization.

With a squad of 6 engineers and a product designer, you'll drive the evolution of our core systems that power posting, reconciliation, payouts/collections, and post-purchase management. You'll prioritize resilience, observability, and compliance, partnering with the PSP team as needed to reflect provider changes in our core banking models and processes.

Through deep understanding of consumer preferences, merchant requirements, and industry trends, you'll shape solutions that power millions of transactions across Europe. This role offers the unique opportunity to contribute to building a European leader in the BNPL industry while defining the future of payment technology.

Main responsibilities

  • Define and execute the Core Banking strategy and roadmap, aligning system evolution with company goals for scalability, reliability, cost efficiency, and compliance.
  • Lead advanced product discovery and end-to-end delivery, ensuring robust, observable, and auditable features; drive continuous discovery with users and stakeholders.
  • Design and evolve accounting models and ledger structures in partnership with finance and risk teams to ensure accurate financial representation, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Embed regulatory and accounting compliance by design (auditability, controls, traceability)
  • Optimise Core Banking performance and reliability, monitoring key metrics such as cost of cash, latency, reconciliation accuracy, and operational incidents to drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee and optimise integrations with internal and external systems (PSPs, bank transfers, invoicing/e-invoicing, KYC/KYB, accounting tools); evaluate and prioritise new capabilities.
  • Stay ahead of industry and technology trends, leveraging market insights and innovation to strengthen the company's financial infrastructure and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with other squads to lead transversal initiatives that maximise the impact of Core Banking capabilities across Alma's product ecosystem.

Hard skills

  • Knowledge of modern product practices (continuous discovery, design thinking, hypothesis-driven delivery, etc.).
  • Experience leading ambitious and cross-functional projects on complex, highly technical products with measurable business outcomes.
  • Deep understanding of e-commerce and financial regulations. You are familiar with concepts and regulations such as e-invoicing frameworks, PSD2/3 and CCD II.
  • Strong technical expertise, familiar with concepts such as APIs, webhooks, IPNs, event-driven systems and able to work with engineers on deep technical topics.
  • Data-driven decision-making and proficiency with analytics/BI tools (e.g., Metabase, SQL basics).

Soft skills

  • Strategic thinking with ability to balance short-term incremental improvements with long-term vision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team work
  • Outstanding communication: able to synthesize complex systems for both technical and non-technical audiences; crisp written docs and specs.
  • Structured problem-solving and strong product judgment under regulatory and technical constraints.
  • Leadership presence to drive alignment and decisions while maintaining pace.
  • Adaptability and ownership in a fast moving, high ambiguity environment.

What would make you a good fit for this job ?

  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Manager in fintech, banking or payments
  • Track record of delivering high-impact initiatives on complex systems with measurable business outcomes.
  • Experience with BNPL, payment orchestration, ledgering, or core banking systems is a strong plus
  • Highly organised, with strong prioritisation and execution discipline; meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong written and spoken English.

About The Recruitment Process

  • Interview with Recruiter (30-45 mins)
  • Interview with Hiring Manager (60 mins)
  • Product case study presentation: Head of Product/CPO + 1 Senior PM (60 mins)
  • Interview with Engineering Manager & Product Designer (45 mins)
