Senior Data Engineer
At Sytac, we build high-performing engineering teams for leading organizations. We combine a pragmatic, people-first culture with technical craftsmanship, giving engineers autonomy in real production environments.
For one of our key clients in the Netherlands, we are looking for a Data Engineer – Market Data & Reporting Platform to join a fast-paced team that ships frequently and iterates quickly. You'll build and maintain data pipelines integrating with financial vendors, automate reporting workflows, and help evolve infrastructure across multiple environments in a team where clean code, strong fundamentals, and AI-assisted development are part of how everyone works every day.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain Airflow-based data pipelines and automation workflows.
- Integrate with external financial data providers and internal services.
- Manage configuration and deployments across test, user-acceptance, and production environments.
- Contribute to shared libraries, CLI tooling, and automated reporting infrastructure.
- Collaborate closely with the wider team to scope, review, and ship changes end-to-end.
- Use AI coding assistants as a genuine force multiplier — this is part of the daily workflow, not optional.
What we're looking for
- Strong Python fundamentals, you write clean, well-typed, testable code as a matter of habit.
- Strong SQL skills, you write and optimise complex queries without reaching for an ORM first.
- Hands-on PostgreSQL experience: indexes, query plans, schema design.
- Experience with workflow orchestration and pipeline tooling, Airflow experience is directly relevant.
- Comfortable working in a containerised, cloud-native infrastructure.
- Able to move fast without cutting corners, you know when to slow down and when to ship.
- Proactive communicator who picks up context quickly in a busy, high-throughput environment.
- Confident using AI coding assistants as part of your daily workflow.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with financial data, market data vendors, or post-trade systems.
- Experience working in a regulated financial services or capital markets environment.
- Background in building or maintaining shared developer libraries and internal tooling.
