Contract: Full-time

About the ETC

The Energy Transitions Commission (ETC) is a global coalition of leaders across the energy system committed to achieving net-zero emissions by mid-century.

Our Commissioners are senior executives from energy, industry, finance, and civil society. Through rigorous, fact-based analysis, we align diverse stakeholders around practical pathways to deliver the energy transition.

The ETC Secretariat is hosted by Systemiq.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Head of Strategic Analysis and Insights to lead the ETC’s analytical programme at a critical moment for the energy transition.

This role sits at the intersection of:

  • Rigorous quantitative analysis
  • Strategic narrative development
  • Senior stakeholder engagement

You will lead the development of high-impact insights across key areas of the energy transition—including clean electrification, transition economics, and low-carbon molecules—and translate these into compelling narratives that shape decisions by industry, finance, and policymakers.

This role also requires a strong understanding of how AI is reshaping analytical work—leveraging AI to accelerate insight generation while applying critical judgement to ensure robustness, credibility, and relevance.

Key Responsibilities

Analytical Leadership

  • Lead the ETC’s analytical programme across priority areas, including:
    • Energy transition pathways aligned with well below 2°C
    • Economics of the transition, including distributional impacts
    • Clean electrification and power system transformation
    • Hydrogen, bioenergy, and carbon capture
  • Define analytical approaches, ensuring rigour and relevance
  • Oversee quality assurance across all outputs

Insight Development & Communication

  • Translate complex analysis into clear, compelling insights for:
    • Senior executives
    • Policymakers
    • Technical audiences
  • Shape flagship outputs including reports, briefings, and workshop materials
  • Work with communications teams to extend reach through digital and media channels

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead engagement with ETC Commissioners and external stakeholders
  • Facilitate discussions across industry, finance, and policy communities
  • Build consensus across diverse and competing perspectives
  • Represent the ETC externally as a credible and authoritative voice

AI-Enabled Analysis

  • Embed AI tools into analytical workflows to significantly accelerate research, synthesis, and insight generation
  • Identify where AI can replace or augment traditional analytical approaches, improving speed and scale
  • Apply critical judgement to validate outputs, challenge assumptions, and ensure analytical robustness
  • Build team capability in effective AI use and stay at the forefront of relevant developments

Team & Programme Leadership

  • Lead and develop a small, high-performing analytical team
  • Manage multiple workstreams and external research partnerships
  • Contribute to fundraising and development of new analytical initiatives

Candidate Profile

A high-calibre analytical leader with strong energy transition expertise and the ability to connect data, insight, and influence.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in strategy consulting, energy research, think tanks, or similar high-performance environments
  • 5-7+ years of expertise in energy, climate, or related fields – ideally across all energy system aspects
  • Strong track record leading analytical workstreams or programmes
  • Experience engaging senior stakeholders across industry, finance, or policy
  • Practical experience applying AI tools to research, synthesis, and insight generation, with a clear understanding of their strengths and limitations

Core Capabilities

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-structuring skills
  • Ability to connect detailed analysis with system-level insight
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to balance detail with system-level thinking
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams

Desirable

  • Experience across corporate, finance, NGO, and policy contexts
  • Familiarity with energy system modelling and scenario analysis (e.g. IEA, BNEF)
  • Experience in multi-stakeholder or coalition environments
  • International experience across key transition markets
  • Multiple languages

What This Role Offers

A central role in shaping one of the most influential analytical voices in the global energy transition, working directly with senior leaders across industry, finance, and policy.
