Data Center Technical Lead
Location: Sines
About the job:
As a Data Center Technical Lead at Start Campus, you'll be at the heart of Europe’s largest and most sustainable data ecosystem. Reporting to the Site Operations Manager, you’ll ensure the resilience and integrity of our site operations by leading critical maintenance, managing changes, and coordinating emergency responses. You’ll train and support technical teams and contractors, contribute during construction and commissioning phases, and drive infrastructure improvements.
Your mission: keep everything running smoothly, efficiently, and safely - while always looking for smarter, more sustainable ways to operate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uptime, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various systems.
- Maintain overall technical integrity and resiliency of the Data Center, drawing on extensive knowledge of critical systems and asset conditions.
- Monitor multiple information streams and make accurate mission-critical decisions.
- Ensure high performance of all O&M contracts and staff.
- Ensure compliance with applicable policies, processes, and procedures.
- Develop strategies to reduce operational costs while enhancing efficiency.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain data center facilities systems and equipment, responding to abnormal conditions. Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure.
- Track and trend operational KPIs.
- Provide operational and maintenance insights into the design review process.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and team members to develop and review electrical systems design from due diligence through master planning, design, and construction completion for data center projects and major infrastructure upgrades.
- Support the development of standard designs, materials, and equipment.
- Identify and develop scopes for innovative projects.
- Provide technical mentorship and coaching, fostering professional growth within the team.
- Own and manage program-level technical system issues regarding system design, identifying and resolving issues with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Lead critical system troubleshooting, unit commissioning, repairs/replacements with minimal supervision, ensuring quality, quantity, and timeliness as assigned.
- Create test plans, perform testing, and validate designs to meet engineering requirements.
- Coordinate input for facilities programs.
- Respond to critical data center events and alarms, acting as a point of escalation for operational issues if required.
- Troubleshoot, determine root cause, and resolve technical challenges.
- Adhere to company EHS, Critical Works process, electrical safety procedures and processes, continually seeking improvements.
Minimum Requirements:
- Degree in Engineering, or other verifiable training in a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of relevant work experience in critical environment
Key Qualifications:
- Experience investigating failures and performing root cause analysis.
- 5+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment
- Experience in design, construction, commissioning and/or operation of large-scale mission critical facilities or data centers.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team while prioritizing work efficiently.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new processes, procedures, and equipment.
- Ability to prioritize in a complex, fast-paced environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- High proficiency of Portuguese and English (being the day-to-day preferred language)
