The Financial Controller Role
As we continue to grow, Send is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join our team during an exciting period of scale as we move through Series B and beyond.
Reporting to the CFO, you’ll play a critical role in building robust, scalable financial processes, reducing reliance on outsourced bookkeeping, and strengthening financial controls across our UK and US operations.
You’ll play a pivotal role in building the financial infrastructure that will support our next stage of growth. This is an opportunity to shape the finance function from the ground up, work closely with senior leadership, and make a tangible impact as we scale through Series B and beyond.
This is a hands-on leadership role in a lean, high-growth environment. You’ll own day-to-day finance operations while establishing the infrastructure, governance, and reporting rigour needed for our next phase of growth. As the accounting authority for the business, you’ll ensure accuracy, compliance, and audit-readiness across our multi-entity structure.
About Send
We are the leading insurance platform, trusted by world-class insurers to help them navigate complex risks.
Our platform helps commercial insurers, MGAs and reinsurers modernise underwriting, cut friction, and grow profitably in complex markets.
We are the only platform purpose-built for multi-operating models. Our platform combines deep industry expertise with the ability to support a range of strategies and operating models.
Our Story:
We started Send because insurers had been let down for too long by rigid, legacy technology. The industry was ready to work differently – and so were we.
In 2017, our three founders set out with a clear vision: to transform commercial underwriting by combining advanced technology with deep industry expertise.
By 2019, we delivered our first commercial and specialty underwriting platform for Aviva GCS, streamlining operations, increasing efficiency, and giving teams the visibility they needed to make faster, better decisions.
Over the next six years, we rolled out multiple underwriting platform solutions across the UK and US, proving that modern underwriting technology could be powerful, flexible, and rapidly delivered.
In 2022, we won three industry awards and secured a $10m Series A to accelerate our growth. By 2024, Send was recognised as a “Leader” by IDC, Celent, and Datos – a testament to our momentum and our customers’ success.
In 2025, we doubled in size and deepened our expertise in both the London Market and North America – becoming the only underwriting platform purpose-built to support multiple operating models.
But we're not finished. Insurers want orchestration, not siloed systems. That’s why we continue to invest in our platform and orchestration engine – helping our customers win better business, faster.
The Send Team
Over the past two years, Send has experienced significant growth, expanding our team by over 50% to more than 120 people. At the start of 2024, our team was primarily based in the UK and Poland. Since then, we’ve taken major steps toward building a global presence, with team members now located across the UK, US, India, and Ireland-all working collaboratively toward our vision of becoming the market-leading software platform for agile insurers.
Our Funding
From 2017 to 2022, we bootstrapped our growth journey, building a profitable and stable company. In November 2022, following a year of strong customer and team growth, we secured $10 million in Series A funding to accelerate our expansion across the UK and US, as well as to further enhance our product development. We’re proud to have the support and expertise of our investors, Mercia and Breega.
We are now preparing for our Series B round and are excited about the growth acceleration this will enable.
What You’ll Be Doing as a Financial Controller
- Own core finance operations: Lead AP, AR, banking, FX, reconciliations, global payroll, VAT, US sales tax, intercompany, filings, journals, and expenses - building appropriate automations to drive an efficient in-house function.
- Build scalable systems and processes: Design workflows and leverage our Sage Intacct ERP to create a finance function that scales efficiently as we expand, with a bias toward automation and standardisation.
- Lead financial reporting: Own month and year-end close for both UK and US entities and consolidated group; produce insightful monthly reporting packs for the CEO, senior leadership team, and investors.
- Strengthen financial foundations: Refine our chart of accounts; work cross-functionally to build clean definitions, methodologies, and accounting policies.
- Manage the audit process: Serve as the primary point of contact for our external auditors, coordinating the annual statutory audit, implementing auditor recommendations, and maintaining audit-ready documentation throughout the year.
- Be our accounting authority: Act as the company's technical accounting expert, owning accounting policies, technical judgement, and relationships with auditors and advisors. [The CFO is commercially focused, so you'll be the go-to for all accounting matters.]
- Improve financial visibility: Deliver timely, accurate, and actionable reporting that supports strategic decision-making as we scale beyond Series B and grow internationally.
- Own treasury and cash management: Design and administer treasury policies appropriate for our multi-entity, multi-currency structure, maximising interest income and minimising banking fees.
- Ensure tax compliance: Own global tax compliance (with advisor support), including UK VAT, US sales tax, and transfer pricing.
The Skills and Experience Needed for the Financial Controller Role
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with 5–8+ years’ experience in hands-on finance roles, including Financial Controller, Group FC or Head of Accounting experience in a fast-growing environment (ideally B2B SaaS, fintech or Insurtech).
- Strong technical accounting foundation, ideally Big 4 trained (or equivalent). Comfortable owning accounting policies, leading month- and year-end close, preparing consolidated accounts, and acting as the accounting authority for the business.
- Multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction experience, particularly across UK and US operations, including VAT, US sales tax, payroll, intercompany, FX and statutory compliance.
- End-to-end finance operations ownership, covering AP, AR, payroll, banking, reconciliations and tax. Experience transitioning from outsourced support to building a scalable in-house finance function.
- ERP expertise, ideally Sage Intacct or a similar cloud-based system, with experience configuring for multi-entity consolidation, reporting and controls.
- Automation-focused and systems-minded, with a bias toward standardisation, process design and building lean, scalable finance infrastructure.
- Detail-oriented and accountable, producing accurate, audit-ready financials the business can trust.
- Hands-on leader, comfortable operating in the detail while building toward a best-in-class finance function alongside the CFO and junior team members.
- Commercially pragmatic and confident in judgement, able to operate in ambiguity and provide clear guidance to non-finance stakeholders.

- Exposure to a Series B fundraising process
- Knowledge of US transfer pricing
