AI Technical Staff

Palo Alto, New York City, Boston

Role Overview

As AI Technical Staff, you’ll serve as a senior individual contributor and technical leader — designing, developing, and deploying the AI systems that power RISA’s platform. You’ll work across applied ML, LLMs, simulation, and infrastructure to create systems that are reliable, scalable, and impactful.

This role is ideal for someone who combines deep technical expertise with a strong sense of product thinking — and who thrives in environments where AI meets real-world complexity.

Responsibilities

  • AI System Design: Architect, prototype, and build AI systems with a focus on LLMs, multi-agent systems, inference pipelines, and real-time simulation.
  • LLM Development & Prompting: Fine-tune, prompt-engineer, and integrate open-source and enterprise-grade language models into our platform.
  • Production ML Engineering: Build ML pipelines that are reproducible, secure, and optimized for performance in cloud-based environments.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product, engineering, and clinical ops teams to turn domain challenges into scalable AI products.
  • Research to Impact: Stay at the edge of AI research (e.g., transformers, multi-agent coordination, reinforcement learning), with a bias toward rapid application.
  • Technical Leadership: Influence roadmap, mentor engineers, and set best practices in architecture, modeling, and deployment.
  • Regulatory-Aware Development: Ensure AI solutions are built with privacy, explainability, and compliance (e.g., HIPAA) top of mind.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering, applied research, or related roles
  • Advanced Python skills and experience with ML/AI libraries (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, Hugging Face Transformers)
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs, NLP, generative AI, or simulation systems
  • Experience deploying AI systems into production (cloud-native environments, CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Proven ability to write clean, scalable, and production-grade code
  • Strong communication skills and ability to translate AI concepts across technical and business teams
  • Bonus: Experience working in healthcare, insurance, or other regulated industries
  • Bonus: Publications in AI/ML conferences or contributions to open-source frameworks
