About the job
At Modo Energy, we're building the global standard for benchmarking and valuing the world's electrification assets - unlocking returns for battery energy storage, solar, wind and data centres.
About Modo Energy
We are a global AI-native system for valuing electrification assets – we want to be the Bloomberg of energy as the globe transitions to net zero. We’ve achieved a huge amount in our first few years and have big plans. We’re looking for exceptional people to come and join us to help us get there.
Check out our terminal, where we provide free and open access to an array of content on the energy transition.
Why we need you
We're looking for a smart, motivated Energy Modeller to join our US Forecasting team and help deliver Modo Energy's power market forecasts to our users as we build trustworthy revenue projections across multiple geographies and asset classes. These tools are used by organizations across the industry to finance, build, benchmark, and operate the infrastructure assets that will power the energy transition.
What you'll do
- Build market-leading models Develop and enhance our in-house suite of power market and dispatch models, directly expanding the depth and accuracy of Modo's product offering.
- Turn complex data into insight Source, process, and interpret large, complex datasets used as inputs to our forecasting and optimization models, or research articles. Own quality and credibility Analyze model outputs and perform rigorous quality assurance to ensure the highest standards across our published numbers and customer-facing deliverables.
- Shape the forecast narrative Craft the story behind our forecasts, including expectations around future policy, market design, and structural changes in power markets.
- Build for the user Work in a product-focused way to ensure our products align closely with user needs and deliver clear value across the wider Modo team.
- Work across teams Partner closely with our development team to ensure seamless integration of models and outputs into the Modo Energy Terminal.
What we're looking for
Experience that counts
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative field (mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics, or similar)
- 3–5 years' experience building and running power market models, with strong programming capabilities in Python (or another language such as R, C++, or Java)
- Proven experience producing high-visibility, customer-facing analytical outputs
- Previous experience modelling power systems and/or energy assets, particularly:
- Power price forecasting
- Optimization and dispatch models
- Locational dynamics and real-time operations
- Familiarity with GB and European power markets, including renewable technologies, market design, and regulatory frameworks
- A builder mentality, with a track record of using AI to optimize, improve, and innovate modelling workflows
Technical skills that matter
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with a track record of solving complex technical problems
- Proficiency with Python and the scientific Python stack (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, scikit-learn)
- Hands-on experience with cloud environments (e.g. AWS)
- Experience with linear programming and optimization frameworks
The right mindset Curious, detail-oriented, and commercially aware. You care deeply about data quality, enjoy turning technical work into clear narratives, and thrive when working closely with engineers, product teams, and customers.
The details
- Location: London Work setup: We're an in-person company that values collaboration and team culture. Everyone works in the office Tuesday through Thursday, with flexibility to work from home or the office on Mondays and Fridays.
- Benefits: 25 days annual leave; medical, dental, and pension
