Senior Manufacturing Engineer Additive Manufacturing (m/f/d)

Ottobrunn, Bavaria, Germany

Mission Brief

As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Additive Manufacturing, you are the technical authority and process owner for metal AM production (LPBF and related post‑processing). You ensure manufacturing readiness from prototype through series production, establish robust and scalable processes, and drive industrialization in close collaboration with Design, R&D, Quality, and Supply Chain. You lead process capability, quality governance, and continuous improvement to deliver high‑yield, cost‑efficient, and repeatable AM production.

Our machinery includes only state-of-the-art machines and equipment, as well as the latest additive manufacturing processes.

Your Role in Our Space Mission:

  • Own the end‑to‑end AM manufacturing process, including build preparation, parameter development, powder lifecycle, and post‑processing (heat treatment, machining, finishing).
  • Lead industrialization and NPI for AM parts, including pFMEA, control plans, capability studies, and process validation from prototype to serial production.
  • Lead problem‑solving, root cause analysis, and structural improvements for yield, machine uptime, and process stability.
  • Establish quality frameworks for AM (parameter set control, acceptance criteria, build data governance) and lead complex investigations using structured methodologies.
  • Collaborate with Design on DfAM, providing guidance on manufacturability, critical features, and cost drivers.
  • Define equipment requirements and support investment planning for new AM infrastructure and automation.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians in AM methods, process engineering rigor, and statistical thinking.
  • Ensure safe operation of AM, powder handling, heat treatment, and post‑processing equipment following HSE standards.

Qualification Checklist

  • Degree in Electrical, Aerospace, Automotive Engineering, or equivalent education
  • Professional experience in metal AM (ideally LPBF) in aerospace, high‑tech, or similar environments
  • Strong expertise across the AM chain: slicing, parameter development, powder handling, in‑situ monitoring, post‑processing, and NDT/CT.
  • Strong proficiency with CAD and AM toolchains (e.g., 3DXpert, SolidWorks/Teamcenter, build prep/slicing software), and with data analysis for process control.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead industrialization projects and manage TRL/MRL maturity gates.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, structured working style, and ability to operate in fast‑paced environments.
  • Fluent English; German is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Lean, continuous improvement, and process capability assessment

Bonus Skills

  • Experience with advanced/automated AM systems (automated depowdering, build monitoring, MES integration).
  • Experience in powder development and testing.
  • Background in automated or quality‑critical production systems.
