Director of Engineering

Due to our growth ambitions, we are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering with a data-driven product mindset.

As a Director of Engineering for our Product & Technology unit, you will lead and mentor a diverse team of 80+ engineers. You’ll be responsible for managing engineering teams and ensuring that quality and velocity standards and goals are met. You will work directly with the CPTO on technical vision and architecture while collaborating with teams across the company to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality software products. You will play a critical role in scaling our platform and ensuring that our products meet the highest security standards while maintaining ease of use for our customers.

What will you be doing? 

  • Promoting our platform engine as the driving force of the business. Coach teams to seek, identify, and leverage technology-driven opportunities that create business value. Encourage a deep understanding of product impact among engineers and reinforce engineering as a profit centre mentality.
  • As an engineering function manager, directly leading 5 Engineering Managers. 
  • Driving architectural decisions, ensuring performance, scalability, and robustness of applications.
  • Overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standard.
  • Collaborating with product, engineering, and design roles in cross-functional teams to improve engineering processes and raise the bar on quality and efficiency.
  • Influencing best practices in product-led-sales organisation setting and ensuring they're followed across the company. 
  • Collaborating with senior leadership and key stakeholders to define, execute and track the technical roadmap aligned with business goals.
  • Playing a key role in the hiring process and building the product engineering teams.

What we’d like to see in the candidate:

  • Strong proven technical background with expertise in software development, system architecture, and engineering practices.
  • Track record in a similar senior-level engineering leadership position in a product company. 
  • Ability to coordinate complex technical projects that span multiple teams, while providing high-level progress updates in clear, business-friendly terms.
  • Ability to transform data and metrics into strategic insights.
  • Strong communication, presentation and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and guide large teams.
  • Meritocracy and approachability. We don’t let hierarchy stand in the way of getting things done. Leaders encourage collaboration, transparency, and the free exchange of ideas, regardless of job title or rank.
  • High level of written and verbal English communication skills.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in a start-up or scale-up.
  • Experience with similar stack, architecture and tech journey: Java Springboot backend services, PostgreSQL, Vue/Nuxt, Node.js, path from monolith to microservices ecosystem, multi-tenancy, CDC data pipelines. 
  • Experience in building financial services.
