Compliance Officer - Bucharest, Romania

We are seeking a Compliance Officer for our Bucharest, Romania branch. In this role, you will collaborate closely with our international compliance team to help ensure that our continued growth is grounded in integrity and a robust, sustainable compliance framework. You will be instrumental in supporting the implementation of this framework in alignment with local regulatory requirements. You will report to the Global Head of Anti-Financial Crime.

What will you do:

As a Compliance Officer, your mission is to ensure the effective application of all relevant laws and regulations related to anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, and regulatory reporting obligations, while supporting the organization in upholding high standards of compliance and ethical conduct across all business activities, decisions, and operations.

Your responsibilities will be diverse, encompassing day-to-day compliance activities, participation in cross-functional projects, and support for the implementation of new regulatory requirements. Key contributions will include:

  • Monitor and report on local regulatory updates related to anti-money laundering and financial crime compliance particularly
  • Being the contact point for the National Bank of Romania, the Financial Intelligence Unit (ONPCSB) and other competent authorities
  • Analysis of escalated suspicious or unusual transaction alerts triggered by transaction monitoring or sanctions screening tools                                    
  • Draft and contribute to the drafting and submission of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) or equivalent disclosures to the local Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU)
  • Lead and contribute to the preparation of regulatory reports or data requests issued by local supervisory authorities in coordination with central compliance
  • Assist in the creation of AML-related materials, including procedures, team guidelines, and support documentation for business and operations
  • Act as a local point of contact between compliance and the first line of defence (business and operations) on AML-related matters
  • Collaborate with central compliance to initiatives for the development of IT solutions instrumental to the fulfilment of the main anti-money laundering obligations;

Participate in training initiatives to promote awareness of AML and KYC requirements and promote a Compliance culture within the local teams   

What do you bring:

  • You have completed a master's degree or equivalent in business law, banking and financial law, and business economics 
  • You have 2+ experience in KYC and or KYT risk management
  • You have knowledge with the relevant laws and regulations applicable to the fight against money laundering, such as but not limited to:
    • Legea nr. 129/2019 pentru prevenirea și combaterea spălării banilor și finanțării terorismului, precum și pentru modificarea și completarea unor acte normative
    • NBR Regulation No. 2/2019 on the prevention and combating of money laundering and terrorist financing
  • You want to contribute to the development of a Fintech leader in an innovative and leading industry
  • You have great autonomy, and you are rigorous in your daily work
  • You have excellent analytical skills
  • You are well organized and detail oriented
  • You have a good knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint tools
  • You are fluent in English and Romanian, French is a +
